Hi

My sister in law landed in Toronto last week. She is an indian citizen and her passport, brith cert does not have a last name. So when she landed on her landing paper the immigration officers put her first name as her last name and left the first name blank (I heard this is common in this situation.)

But now we went to open an account and we showed the landing paper and passport. The landing paper had her last name as AK. The passport has her first name as AK and last name blank.

This caused some issues and TD wasnt able to open a account for her.

My question is how can we get around this situation? I know others on here have had similar issues, how did you go about opening a Bank account?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Hi,

I faced the same issue when I landed but no issues at the immigration...for bank account i opened in RBC Gerrard and coxwell branch meet someone who is asian or "Qazi" he will understand and will help as he helped me and opened an account for me.

This is a big issue and a lot of people from India are facing this due to our government making mistakes on passport...If you really want to correct the documents then you will first need to correct the name on passport, then PR,landing papers, driving License, Health card n all the other documents corrected which may take around 2 years...I just left it like that honestly and a lot of people do and things are running smooth with them.
