Hi,
I applied for Permanent Residency (CEC) last week and I know to get AOR it take ages.

My closed work permit expires by end of May 2015 .I want to apply for Open Work Permit . Can I apply?

If I can apply then while filling the application form I've following questions with options

"I am applying for one or more of the following:"
- A work permit with the same employer
- A work permit with a new employer
- Restoration of temporary resident status as worker
- Initial temporary resident permit or extension of temporary resident permit.

Since I want to apply for Open work permit I would like to know which option I need to select for the above question.

If I'm right even open work permit taking 6 months processing time so I would like to apply for it now.

Thanks,

Firstly, you could simply follow the questionnaire like everyone else:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/cometocanada.asp

Yes will be able to apply, but not yet. You must have less than four months left on your current work permit and have the AOR at the time they process your application.

Check both 'A work permit with the same employer' and 'A work permit with a new employer' if you can. Choose either one if validation is a dick about things and check the other once the bar codes have been added. There shouldn't be any confusion anyway as 'Open Work Permit' included elsewhere on the application these days.

My previous work permit was expiring on November, 2014 (closed WP). I had filed for PR end of March 2014.
On July, this year, where I had already less than 4 months left on the Work Permit, I applied for a new one. (extend)

I started an online application and everything was direct and easy to follow. I followed the questionnaire that arowberry posted and I got the option for Open Work Permit.
The whole process with the delivery to my mail box took almost a month. (one month, not 6!)

Since August, I'm with an Open Work Permit.

P.S: You'll laugh while reading the conditions in the Open Work Permit. Specially, point 3!! Where it specifies some Business areas, where you can't work! :D

If it is the same company, then choose "Inter Company transfer". If not, then try choosing "None of the above" and see what else it gonna ask you.

Just an FYI, going back to part of your original post"

"If I'm right even open work permit taking 6 months processing time so I would like to apply for it now."

If you are referring to the Bridging Open Work Permit, then that is very incorrect. The current processing time for a BOWP is 19 days for an online application.

It is (effectively) a work permit extension:

Hi all,
when I check my eligibility conditions to apply open work permit there is a mandatory field "Which situation best describes your work situation? " I was selecting none of the above then on the other screen it shown did I have LMO if I select No then its showing I'm not eligible.

I don't know how the open work permit works in this country do we need to have LMO from the old or new employee. please help me if any one applied for open work permit.

here is my situation I'm on closed work permit valid till 25th may 2015 and couple of weeks ago I applied Canada PR under CEC class NOC 2174 and my employer currently supported me with all documents which are required for canadian PR ie. CEC .

Since my closed work permit valid till may 25th 2015 and by looking at this forum OCT Applicants will receive AOR by end of Jan or mid of Feb. Open Work permit processing time
I can see 19 days that's really good news even I get AOR by end of FEB I can go for it.

how to apply open work permit without LMO is it possible?

Did any one applied without LMO?.

Thanks,

This isn't complicated. To get a Bridging Open Work Permit:

(1) You MUST have an AOR.
(2) You MUST have less than four months left on your current visa.
(3) It does not matter if your current visa is open or closed.

The Bridging Open Work Permit normally lasts one year and will allow you to take whatever work you want (more or less). It only takes about 19 days to process online (currently).

What is confusing you? You seem slightly obsessed with the LMO, but it's not relevant.

I went from an International Experience Canada visa to a BOWP (after a period on implied status).

Original Poster is not eligible yet to apply for an Open Work Permit, as he/she don't have AOR yet, unless he/she has circumstances that we are not aware yet. Are you thinking of moving or finding another job?

Probably would be a good idea to stick with your employee, at least until you got your AOR and then Open Work Permit. There are about 7 months of time windows between now and the expiry date of your closed work permit. Hopefully, you will get your AOR already by Feb 2015 (4 months left remaining on CWP), and then you can apply for Open Work Permit.

To avoid bad references or even refusal from current employer, it is safer to even stick with them until you get your PPR. Sometimes the VOs might require more specific employment documents or need to contact your current employer. That way one less factors to worry about for the smoothness of your application process...

Thanks for providing valuable Information. I think its too early to think about Open Work Permit .

As I informed I don't have plans to change my employer till May 25th 2015 and If at all I apply work permit I will go with Open instead of closed.

You are welcome! There are too many stress associated with PR application. Let's just worry about the current priorities for now...
