You can apply for an open work permit with the PR application IF you currently have legal temporary status in Canada. If you don't, you aren't eligible to apply for a work permit until after you're granted Approval in Principle. So, if you currently have legal temporary status in Canada, include this Application to Change Conditions or Extend my Stay in Canada, and the associated fees, in the same envelope with the inland PR application and make sure the application gets to CPC-Vegreville BEFORE you current status expires. Check "Initial Work Permit" on the form and you will be issued an Open Work permit at the same time your AIP is granted.
If I read this correctly, this process and application described above is ONLY valid if you are applying INLAND - ie to CPC-V.

Is this process still valid if I apply OUTLAND?

From what I understand from reading/posting in this thread http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/updated-topics/-t47453.0.html;topicseen I cannot work while my PR is being processed?

Yes, it's inland. People who apply inland can get an open work permit once they get first stage approval. Getting first stage approval takes 6-8 months. When you apply outland, you may have your PR already by 6-8 months.

If you are dying to work while applying outland, you can still try to find an employer who will apply for your LMO so you can apply for a regular temporary work permit or you can look into one of those work permit exempt jobs: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-nopermit.asp

hello I dont have legal temporary status in canada right now however I m married an my wife is canadian. we are about to send our papers to the immigration office. I was told that eventhough if you dont have a legal status in canada you are still eligible to apply for immigration unless you are married.. i m planning to apply for work permit and send my application to the immigration office with my spouse application at the same time
what i want to know is am I still eligible to apply for work permit or should I just wait till I get my approval from immigration office. it will cost me extra $150 to apply for open work permit. some people say no matter what apply for it because it would take some time anyways and I dont want to waste my time ... I know that if you have no status in canada you may not get your approval but I m married if I m eligible to apply for immigration can I send my work permit application at the same time

thank you

i pass my application for open work permit last june 2010.,,,what is the processing time for this application???

pls help..
If you are being sponsored as a spouse under family class, inland, the average processing time for first stage approval and open work permit if it was sent at the same time is currently 9-10 months, see here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp

my open work permit application is with PR application??how long it will take to approved??how long it will take for me to bring my children in canada????

I do not know what you applied for. You must know that yourself. Open work permits are not that common. You are currently writing in the family class topic so I assume you are a spouse being sponsored. The other possibility would be that you are a live-in caregiver. These two immigration classes both allow open work permit but it is a part of the PR processing and is given after first stage approval of your PR. If you applied for PR, did you apply for PR for your children as well? If you did, they get PR at the same time you do.

I do not know what you applied for or when.

1. Are you family class or are you a live-in caregiver?

2. In what country are your children?

3. Did you apply for your children at the same time as accompanying dependents?

Answer these questions and I can look up the processing times for you or you can do yourself at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp

Live-in caregiver, see here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-other.asp takes 15-16 months to get an open work permit. If you applied June 2010, you might get the open work permit in September or October this year. PR takes another 16 months so you might get PR around January or February 2013. The visa office will not give your children PR before you get PR but they will have processed their files at the same time so they should get PR soon after you get yours.

If you applied for PR before they turned 22, they are ok as long as they don't get married or live in a common law relationship before they land as PR's

She is ok not to be in school. Because you applied for her PR before she turned 22, her age is locked in and she does not have to be a full time student.

I am planning on getting married in the very near future (within the month) I am a US Born citizen and my fiance is a Canadian Born Citizen. I currently have a student visa that is valid until April 2012 but I just decided not to finish school, so I am debating on after we get married, how to apply for sponsorship, inland our outland? can i apply outland (buffalo office) while I have my study permit or do I have to apply inland? Ive been researching and think that the outland is the best way to apply. So thinking if i cannot since the study permit is valid, that I go to immigration and tell them im done with my studies and give it back to them, then apply outland, and stay home in Michigan for a month or two and then apply for OWP once the Stage 1 is complete (approx 2 months currently)

Wondering if that is a good idea or what is the better route for this? also if I do the outland PR application, how hard is to cross into canada with them knowing that Ive applied for PR? and do I need any special VISA or no? cause legally a citizen from USA can come into canada with no visa for 6 months right?

thanks for all the help

You can apply outland while you are in Canada on a study permit but you are not eligible for an OWP with outland. However, you will likely get your PR with outland faster than you would get your OWP with inland.
