I am trying to apply for Open Work permit based on my husband's job.
He is already in Canada working as an univ. professor.

1. According to my research, to be eligible to apply for OWP, my hudband's job needs to be in certain skill level, type 0, level A or B?
The univ. professor's NOC number looks like 4121 but I can not find what level it is. What is the skill level for univ. professor?
Am I eligible for OWP?

2. It looks like there is no specific application form for OWP but the general work permit application form seems to be used. Should I indicate "through the husband work permit" or something for the Job offered section?

3. What exact document he needs to provide?
ex) certified copy of current work visa, job contrast, passport, marriage certificate?

4. If I am not eligible to OWP, what option do I have to move and work in Canada?
I am a medical technologist in case it matters for other options.

1.University Professor must be skilled level, you are definitely able to apply OWP

2. no specific application form. just use change status form

3. correct

4. As long as your husband is working with work permit in canada, you are eligible

Can i ask your husband to write a reference letter for me? ;)

1. I came up with 4121 too, when I looked it up. It is skilled, and under NOC A. I copied this chart from another post.

If the NOC code has a "0" as the first digit it is a management occupation..
For NOC A, B, C and D. If the 1st digit is not zero, look at the 2nd digit.

if the 2nd digit of your NOC code is 1 -- it is under NOC A

if the 2nd digit of your NOC code is 2 or 3 -- it is under NOC B

if the 2nd digit of your NOC code is 4 or 5 -- it is under NOC C

and if the 2nd digit of your NOC code is 6 -- it is under NOC D

2. & 3. Sorry, I don't know.

4. Pretty sure you could get an open work permit. But if not, and if you are a US citizen and could get a job offer as a Medical Technologist you could go to Canada through NAFTA. You would not need an LMO, which is what most people need and is a very time consuming process and sometimes denied.

Link to the Foreign Worker's Manual: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/fw/fw01-eng.pdf

NAFTA info starts on page 155 and the 60 eligible NAFTA occupations (including Medical Technologist) start on page 170

Thanks for responses I got in the past and I am ready to submit my application.

Here I have a problem, I do not know how to pay the fee of 150 $CAD.
I live in the US.

1. Some website tells me to pay either 150$CAD or 110$US but knowing the current rate, is this info still correct?

2. It looks money order is acceptable but do I need to specify to whom (for example CIC)?

3. It seems personal check is not acceptable.

The info on how to pay is not on Guide 5487 (Applying for work permit outside Canada) or the website of the visa office in NY.

I emailed the address on the web but got response saying they do not respond because they are busy. I also called the office and the voice massage says they do not answer questions again because they are busy.

Help me, please.

1. Well all the information was on the NY web site. The fee is $150 either US or Canadian. The instructions are here: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/assets/pdfs/visas/50_1_eng.pdf

Dear PMM

Thank you so much.
I spent so many days looking through the NY visa office web and I almost read every single word hundreds times but I still could not find the info.

You are awesome.
