Open Work Permit -> Federal PR

Hi All,

I landed in Quebec on Nov2016 with open work permit(My spouse is on Work Permit). can someone suggest the procedure for Applying the Federal PR(not dependent to province). I am thinking of Federal PR so that it will easy in job market without dependency to province as i am open to relocate to any province.

Can I(Open Work Permit) alone can apply for Federal PR while my spouse apply for CSQ with quebec.?

Anyone can apply for PR, if you qualify under one of the currently open immigration streams.

we are family of four(couple with two kids). we landed in montreal,Quebec in Nov2016. My spouse has job offer from reputed MNC(Multi National Company - IT). we came to Quebec with work permit status. We are in plans of applying for CSQ and Federal PR.

Is it possible to apply for CSQ and federal PR same time ? Question in detail as below.
In Detail: My spouse(work permit) and kids will apply for CSQ and myself(Open work permit) alone will apply for federal PR(Being in Quebec at present with no job).

Kindly advise on Pros & Cons and technical , process difficulties in executing above plan..

THere is no such program as "Federal PR". You need to specify exactly what immigration program you intend to apply under, and if you qualify for it.

This is called the Express Entry program now. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp

Have you actually checked the eligibility requirements? If your husband is the one with the skilled position and currently employed in Canada, then he is probably better to be the main applicant.

True. i figured it out from cic website that, its called Express Entry Program. I too checked the eligibility after answering the questions(most of them are not direct applicable to my situation) and it says, i am eligible for express entry. You are correct, my spouse is the best option to apply for PR. but our need is my family(spouse and kids) wants to stay in quebec. and Myself(open work permit) want to move to Ontario for job. so in this situation. we being in quebec. can i apply for express entry PR(Ontario) and my family applies for CSQ in quebec.?

What is your education/skills? Just being eligible to create a profile is not enough, you will need enough points to actually be selected to apply.

You should be posting this in the Express Entry section of this forum as you will get more feedback there.

I have done my Masters in Computer applications(its equalent to Canadian Masters degree). i have 12+ years of IT experience in my country and now in quebec without job from Nov2016 as i told you that , i(open work permit) came here in nov2016 along my spouse(work permit).

I know having a job offer in Canada or already working here, helps a lot with your points so better chance to be selected.

Note that if your spouse has a better chance to apply and get selected, then by including you as his spouse in the app you would both get PR together and after that could move wherever you wanted in Canada. Only 1 of you needs to qualify, to both get PR status. So don't base your decision on who wants to move where.

If I apply for PR(CSQ) as my spouse being primary applicant, i have to stay in quebec for minimum 2 years before i move to other province.
Note: Due to French Language barrier, it is difficult to get a Job in Quebec.

That is the reason, i am planning to apply for express entry program(Ontario) being on open work permit and my spouse will apply for CSQ and stay in Quebec.

now with the above information, i am struggling to come to conclusion on below both aspects.

1. is it mandatory to stay in quebec after we get CSQ->PR for 2 years?
2. can i alone apply(currently with open work permit) for express entry and my spouse applying for CSQ->PR
3. The timelines for getting PR in quebec seems to be much higher than any other province in canada. is it true?

If one gains PR through a province, then after getting PR they are not obligated to stay in that province for any specific amount of time. The only firm rule is they must have a genuine intent to reside in the province during the application process.

Both of you can apply for PR any way you think is best, and if successful can include the other as a spouse so both would get PR together.
