Hello. My husband has ongoing application for permanent residency under humanitarian and compassionate. He then applied for open work permit and paid $255. We received an email from CIC saying that he got a refund of $100. The email only says that "this refers to your application for work permit". My question is, why do we get a refund of $100?? Does it mean that his application for work permit is refused? Please I need some answer. Thank you

Work permit's cost $155. You paid $100 too much, and they refunded it. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/fees.asp

This doesn't mean anything about whether it's approved or refused... but since you overpaid you get the extra back no matter the result.

Thanks for your reply. I thought if you applied for open work permit, you have to pay the $100 for the open work permit holder too? That's why we paid $255, $155 for the open work permit and $100 for open work permit holder. Will they inform you thru email whether your application is being refused?

Hmmm, yeah you're right actually...

Maybe that gets paid later? I'm not too sure anymore, sorry. Hopefully someone else has an answer to that question for you.

Good luck!
