open work permit and extension of student permit

Good day,

I arrived in Canada yesterday on study visa. My study permit will expire by Jun 30 2015. I willl be renewing my permit this week. Can my spouse apply for an open work permit along with my application. He IS presently working in Nigeria.

1. It has to be done separately as your spouse is not in Canada.
2. Before he can apply for a TRV/OWP you must extend your study permit as he will need a copy for his application.
3. As an aside I find it odd that you were only issued a Study Permit for 2 months?

I got my visa last year but couldn't make it down until now. My study visa expires by june 30.
