Open Study Permit for 8-Year-old

Dear Forum,

I am planning to come to Canada (Vancouver) in mid-March 2024 on a student visa, a 2-year program.
I have an 8-year-old daughter studying in Grade 3 in my home country, she has a Canada Visitor visa.


From my latest search, I am aware that I need to apply for an "open study permit" for her to continue her school in Canada.

I have below questions:

1. Can her visit visa be converted to an "Open study permit"?
2. If not what is the process for her to be eligible for school in Canada?
3. If she gets the permit, will it paid by the Government or I will have to cover the school fee?

People with first-hand experience please assist.

Hi, I live in Vancouver on close work permit and my 3 kids going to school and we are not paying any school fee, even my son he took admission in grade 8 and books and school bag was provided by school without any cost. Please let me know if you need further information regarding this.

I planned to shift in mid- March as my course intake will start from April 2024. My daughter will there with me on a visitor visa. My question is regards to visa status. Do I need to apply separate Open school permit for her or school can accept her even she is on visitor visa. ?

She need a study permit, if you are coming on study permit then I am not sure about the school fee, as I said I have close work permit so my kids are eligible for study permit and can get free study here in Vancouver.

Actually as per IRCC guidelines study permit is not mandatory req for minor child if they are accompanied by parent who is having valid study permit but MAY be required by the school.

As for as I know if the child is under 5 years old then study permit not required but over 5 years study permit required but I am not sure. I hope someone else can help you for that.
