Guys, is it possible to open a bank account with Canadian bank, in India (New Delhi)?

One of my friend is planning to land in Canada, and for proof of funds, he wish to open bank account & carry bank statement instead of carrying cash or other financial instruments.

How can he open account with Canadian bank while he is in India?

Please advice....
thank you.

ICICI Bank has branches in Canada and your friend can open "Hello Canada Newcomers Account" http://www.icicibank.ca/faqs/newcomers.htm.

Cheers..

It is better to take DD & then open using DD in Canada itself.
You can save money & time.
This is based on my own case.
I have taken DDs & landing on 23rd March.

thanks for replying...

can you please share how it can save money....

what I was thinking that if account is opened in ScotiaBank then it's just depositing a check from savings account to ScotiaBank, and as per conversion rate CAD is t/f to new account.

But if someone opt for DD or any other instrument, one need to pay fees for that DD or financial instrument + one may get lower conversion rate....

can you please share your experience, and correct me if I have wrong assumption?

SBI is giving better conversion rate than Scotiabank. Atleast diff is Rs 0.8/-.

For CAD 40,000/- the DD charges are Rs 500/- + Rs.668 service charges = Rs.1168/-.

Scotia Bank Courier charges Rs.1250/- for docs + 1 month Wait time + diff in exchange rate

Hope I made it clear to some extent.

Hi,

I have opened the account from New delhi branch at CP.
Just provide your PP with visa & your COPR.
they will forward your docs to Canada & you will get your account opened from here only.
then its your choice, if you want to give a cheque to put into your acc or you want to take DD & submit it in Canada.
its your wish.

Hope this will help
