Folks

Have you had a situation (esp. for those who have worked for many years) you started your career as a Software Engineer(2173) and as you move ahead your career you work as an IT Analyst/Consultant (2171) ?

In this scenario, is it ok if we put NOC code as 2173 for all the jobs and intend to work as SW Eng. too ? Or, would you put earlier jobs as 2173 and recent one as 2171 and intend to work as 2171 ?

Looking forward to receiving experts advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am in a similar situation like yours. I figured if I put in the same NOC codes for all jobs, it would be wrong as the NOC code wouldn't match the job description.
Hence, in my opinion, it would be better if you put the earlier job(s) as 2173 and the recent one as 2171 and intend to work as either 2171 or 2173.

Good luck!

I think there is not much of difference between 2173 and 2171 JD. However, you have to ensure that you comply with the following work experience requirements for OOPNP:
----------
If you choose to be assessed against the FSWP criteria, OOPNP requires that you have a minimum of one year of continuous and full-time employment (1,560 hours or more) or an equal amount in continuous part-time paid work experience in a National Occupation Classification (NOC) level 0, A, or B occupation in the past five years from the date of the PT Notification of Interest from Ontario. The one year minimum of continuous and full-time (or equivalent continuous part-time) employment must have been completed in one specific NOC occupation.
----------
On job bank there are more jobs under 2171 but has less hourly wage compared to 2173.

Do you think it will be a problem if you answer 2171 as your "Intended profession to work in canada" but actually work as 2173 ?

I had a first job as 2173 and then I am working as 2174. So I put 2174 in the form because that is my current occupation.
