So I did get the common-law status p.r. accepted. Yay!. I will be informing them of my marriage as soon as I get the marriage certificate. Called them up today and was told my marriage does not really change the p.r. application.

So whats next?

I know I have to land and go through immigration to get my p.r. application finished.

Other than that what should I do?

Do I apply for a sin card before I can work? Do I need to get the healthcare stuff figured out?

At landing, I believe that the officer will ask if there has been any change in your family status. Don't forget to disclose again that you are married then.

You need a SIN number to work (cards are not issued anymore). You can get a SIN number at a Service Canada office. Take your COPR and passport with you. They will give you a number on the spot.

You will need to apply for a heath card. Health care varies per province. What province are you moving to?

For OHIP, there is a 3 months waiting period from when you become a resident. Hence it is advisable to get some kind of emergency coverage for those 3 months. I bought this coverage for my wife: http://www.coverme.com/products/travel-insurance-visitors.jsp?MKT=W9G

Note that you can apply for OHIP much sooner. You just have to wait at least 3 months for the coverage to kick in.

For OHIP, you will need COPR and official photo ID (passport is good). You also need proof of address on Ontario which is difficult in the beginning because most people who just landed don't have something that meets the requirements listed here: http://www.forms.ssb.gov.on.ca/mbs/ssb/forms/ssbforms.nsf/FormDetail?openform&ENV=WWE&NO=014-9998E-82

The easiest thing for most is using the first bank statement that gets mailed to them. If your name is on a lease, you can use that. Or if you get an Ontario driver's license, that is good too.
