Hello,

When Applying for Ontario PNP ( Master degree stream), it lists the following as a proof of residency

A copy of ONE of the following to show proof of 1 year of residency in Ontario:
Monthly credit card statement, phone, hydro or energy bill in any accumulative 12 months in the past 2 years showing your full name and Ontario address
Leasing document or rent receipts demonstrating residence in any accumulative 12 months in the past 2 years showing your full name and Ontario address

my question is: will a checking account bank statement with my name and address on it serve for this purpose or it has to be a credit card statement ( for some reasons)?

Thanks much
Oussama

A bank statement doesn't prove you have lived in Ontario. It just proves you have money sitting in an account. The reason why they want to see a credit card statement is because it proves you were actually living in Ontario and using your credit card here. So no - a checking account bank statement won't serve the same purpose. You need to provide a credit card statement. If you don't have a credit card, then a phone, hydro or energy bill statement.

I would say yes, if you are using your debit card for your daily life.

They need to see that you are buying things in Ontario. Which you can prove with the debit card statements. Confirm with PNP-Ontario and Get it from teller free of charge, make sure them to stamp it.

Here is the response i got from Opportunities Ontario:

" Thank you for your inquiry to Opportunities Ontario - International Master's Graduate Stream.

You will need to supply Opportunities Ontario with credit card monthly statements for 12 months or cell phone statements. You cannot submit your bank account statements as proof of premises, but they will be required as proof of account activity for the last 6 months to show proof of funds".

I had a question around the same topic which I posted as a new thread but no one responded! So here I am putting it forward again. Hope no one thinks that I flooding this forum with multiple posts.

I am planning to apply for Ontario PNP under Masters graduate stream this year as soon as I graduate. There's a requirement for me to have stayed in Ontario for at least 12 months in last 2 years before I am eligible. I shall graduate and complete 12 months in September. However, I spent a month in Vancouver, BC in December at a friend's house just as a holiday but I was still paying rent for my Ontario residence. If I claim 12 months residency, is there any way they can find out that I was out of Ontario for a month even though I would have rent receipts for 12 months?
I know some of you might say that just wait a month extra and apply in October but since the quota for Ontario PNP is only 1000, the later I apply, the more likely it is that the quota for 2013 would have been filled up by then.
Please whoever has knowledge on these matters, could you clarify this issue for me?
