Hi,

I just wanted to post this info. So it may be useful for anyone looking for it.

I got married 4 weeks ago in Toronto. And I am here in visitor visa. Initially we were worried about the time taken to get the marriage certificate as it would delay my PR application. Even the wedding officiant told us to wait for 12 weeks before applying as it is peak marriage season here.

Luckily, we took a chance and we applied online in the below link and looks like our marriage is registered and the certificate has been processed immediately.

http://www.ontario.ca/government/marriage-certificate

So don't wait for 6 to 10 weeks to apply for it.

Cheers ! :)

I got married in Dec 2013 and i applied the next day, it still took 8 weeks to receive it. I called them to say that i needed it for immigration and they would only do an emergency certificate if i was getting deported. So just incase allow for the time delay.

I got married 2 weeks ago in Toronto. I was going to wait 6-8 weeks. So what happens if they haven't processed the marriage documents when I apply for the certificate? Does it just simply delay the process or they will forget abt it altogether? Lol

We got married April of this year, i waited for a week before I applied for it online and I received it after 2 weeks. I learned this from this forum..So it doesn't hurt in taking chances! :)

It only delays the process. It will not go waste.

Do we have to send in original marriage certificates? or will photocopies do? In the guide, it says only immigration forms and police certificates need to be original, all others are photocopies unless noted otherwise. However, I see people saying photocopies of marriage certificates have to be notarized. So, I'm a little confused. ??? n did you guys send in long form or short form? Please advise

Check your country guide. Some VOs require original documents, some require photocopies, others want them notarized.

photocopies of marriage certificates do not need to be notarized/certified. If your country specific instructions say only a photocopy is needed, then only a photocopy is needed. follow the rules specified on the checklists for your country, not what others are saying. They could be from another country and have different rules.
