actually that's not true. in my experience, eligibility starts 3 months from landing date, not 3 months from the date signing up. when a person signs up, the date they become eligible is the date they land as a pr, so the 3 month wait period will be from THAT date. If a person can provide all required documentation and signs up on days 1-90 after landing, then the coverage will be held until day 91. if a person signs up on days 91+ after landing, their coverage will be issued immediately.sylvain1 said:As mentioned by Scylla, yes. But to make it clear, they should register as soon as possible. The 3 months start after they register to OHIP.
Thank you CNDPR2014, what I said is what I was told for Quebec RAMQ, but I haven't check myself.CDNPR2014 said:actually that's not necessarily true. in my experience, eligibility starts 3 months from landing date, not 3 months from the date signing up. when a person signs up, the date they become eligible is the date they land as a pr, so the 3 month wait period will be from THAT date. well Quebec is a completely different province with completely different rules. it is not one size fits all. RAMQ rules certainly do not apply to OHIP eligibility and vice versa. OHIP is for ontario residents, and has nothing to do with Quebec, so I wouldn't recommend taking information about an ontario program from someone working for the Quebec program. every province has different rules for medical coverage.sylvain1 said:Thank you CNDPR2014, what I said is what I was told for Quebec RAMQ, but I haven't check myself.
But wen you go down you need to meet the following criteria :markpenn said:what about this?
According to http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/ohip_eligibility.aspx
"you have submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada has confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence in Canada "
?
I think this is only a retrospective clause to ensure OHIP's benefits. Say someone recently registered and gets an OHIP card, but then left Ontario for 4 months and comes back only to receive medical treatments, then OHIP has the right to remove the coverage.TANMEX said:But wen you go down you need to meet the following criteria :
you are in Ontario for at least 153 days of the first 183 days immediately following the date you establish residence in Ontario (you cannot be absent for more than 30 days during the first 6 months of residence); and
you are in Ontario for at least 153 days in any 12-month period.
Now i totally understand. Same here in BC have to wait for 3 months.CDNPR2014 said:actually that's not true. in my experience, eligibility starts 3 months from landing date, not 3 months from the date signing up. when a person signs up, the date they become eligible is the date they land as a pr, so the 3 month wait period will be from THAT date.
