Ontario college graduate certificate vs University graduate diploma

Hi everyone, i'm hoping i can get some guidance on the difference between an ontario college graduate certificate and a graduate diploma at a university. They both seem to be 1 year in length but with some differences

I currently have a bachelor from a Ontario university and would doing a graduate certificate at a COLLEGE the same as the last year of a Bachelor at a university?

The requirements for graduate certificate states that an undergraduate degree is required but i was told that someone with an Ontario Advanced college diploma can also apply. Wouldn't that be to qualify for the last year of a bachelor or is there a different program for those wishing to do that?

For the graduate diploma at universities like york, you cannot apply with a OCAD. it has to be a bachelor.
The graduate diploma is at the masters level, however 1 year shorter. Is the graduate certificate (even though post secondary) also at the master's level or more at the bachelor's level?

Maybe college post secondary is different that university post secondary? As you can see i am really confused and any help would be appreciated.

College courses tend to focus on more practical applications versus more theory at a university. Many people do go to university and then do a college program to have more practical skills in order to get a job. You Can't go from a college course to a post grad at university to I understand your confusion.

It would be easier if you explain what you studied in university and what courses you are considering for post grad.

Thanks for the reply canuck. I Currently have a bachelor in business administration and i have applied to the international business management graduate certificate.

Other than getting practical skills, will a graduate certificate from college be seen as a higher degree than my bachelor? Im assuming no, since someone without a bachelor can also do a graduate certificate.

No I wouldn't recommend doing an international business mgt course at a college. You will be repeating content and it will be considered an inferior degree. Someone who may have done an unrelated degree at university might consider doing the college class to expose them to international business on a basic level in a short period of time.

So a Bachelors degree (university) is in fact a higher degree than a graduate certificate (college)? even if let's say it was a bachelor in science, other than being exposed to international business side, the bachelor is of higher education?
Basically if there was a hierarchy of studies, the bachelor would be higher than the college grad cert?

Sorry if i am repeating my self. iIt's because i am planning to go back home after this program and i want to know if my employer will see it as a higher degree. In the french system, theres a degree after the bacheor and before the master called a DESS (1yr). I basically want to know if a graduate certificate would be equal to that degree (between master and bachelor). I see that some universities offer a program called a graduate diploma (not certificate) and i feel like that would be the one equivalent to the on one in the french system.

It is really dependent on the area of study. Sometimes there is no equivalent course at a university. For example some computer courses may be considered to improve your skills after a bachelors degree. Hierarchy doesn't always work when talking about post grad courses. At an entry level the hieracrhy is a bit more clear e.g. An accounting university degree has more prestige and is more challenging than a degree in accounting from a college. You could only become a CPA after a university course.

Masters courses would be the logical next step after a bachelor degree. It is often not necessary after a commerce or Business Admin degree in order to secure a job. Some people pursue further education like a CFA but not through a college or university. Post grad diplomas are relatively new versus masters programs and are not available in every subject. They would be considered to add value and skill to your bachelor degree but you will get more recognition from a masters degree.

Post graduate is supposed to be for those with a Bachelor's in a similar field but the students seldom have prior experience. I would say post grad is slightly higher level material than just diploma

Usually the requirements for a college diploma is high school, while for graduate diploma is having a college diploma or a degree. For what I've read, if you already have a degree and you apply for a college diploma, there's a slightly high probability of getting your study permit refused.

Bonjour,
if somebody is already studying inside canada in a post graduate diploma , and after that just wants to add a certification to the resume by doing a 'after 12th diploma', could it be possible to get a study visa (since everything is inside Canada)? I know it is going a step lower than the post grad dipoma, but since the student will be inside canada, would that make the transition possible? Merci.
