Would you mind to help couple of people on this forum? s your friend's relative's address can be used like Post office mail box and when we land we can provide them same address?
I wish I could help, but I can't ask them to provide their address to somebody they do not know. They are not that close relatives of my friend. I am in Calgary and I am living in a hotel. If they were that close relatives, I would have lived in their home. We also did not want to bother them. All we wanted is to have an address in Alberta to provide at the port of entry. I am sorry!

Thanks guys. Today, I am staying in a hotel in Banff. I loved this place. If I can find a job here or find a way to start a small business, I would definitely live here. We also went up to Lake Louise. It was all covered with snow, but still beautiful. My kids loved playing snow near the lake.

In the morning, we went to Service Canada and got our SIN numbers. We also went and drove around the University of Calgary. We did not come out of the car as we did not find a parking spot. We have taken a photo of Haskayne Business School building for aNewHope, which I will post on my blog soon.

We still have not got our health cards and driver's license. We also need to open a bank account. I am planning on doing that tomorrow again in Calgary and go to Edmonton to visit the Biggest Mall in the World and stay in Edmonton for the night.

Guys, please help me to remind what else I need to do/apply while I am here. Does it really matter if I applied for health card or driver's license as I am not moving here for about 6 months?

I had to go through pre-assesment in the old system. If my memory is good I think I sent it back in the end of August of last year.
I am not really sure what the time line is nowadays. Check the forum and trackitt.com to get a better idea.
Good luck

Dear magichand,

Did you have to go through a pre-assesment or was your application processed through the new system ?
I first sent in my application in Dec 08, and went through a preassessment and an invitation to apply in April 09.
Submitted my application May 6th, 09.
Recieved my AOR Aug 26th, 09.

I still have not recieved my file number.

My question is does it take 8 months for processing once AINP recieves my application(which is May 6th, 2009) or does it take 8 months after you get your file number?

Greatly appreciate it if you could respond.
Thanks

If you go to the driver license I think you may need to surrender your USA driver license, I don;t think you can have both, maybe wrong maybe not.

Let us know! :)

Finally, I made it. I am writing this from the hotel I am staying in Calgary. We crossed from Coutts, AB and it was a really pleasant experience. There were no questions about fund, not even a bank statement or how much money I am carrying. I was driving a rented car (GMC Yukon) and there were no questions about the car also. Asked for address to mail the PR cards and I gave an address in Calgary (Friend's relative).

I will write more on our converstions at the Port of Entry later. Thanks guys and good luck to all of you.

If you're planing to return to USA you need the address at the moment of landing but If you're landing to stay you can send the address later, this was the case of my brother in law, when he land he just told them that he don't have the address and he'll provide that later.

i would suggest faxing buffalo. normally faxes are monitored hourly basis and more reliable than email. as they may get email inquries lot more than compare to fax inquiry. make sure you include your email address in fax. so they can contact you via email.

try to fax them early morning arround 7:00 am or so. If you are lucky you may see reply same day. None tried this but no harm giving a shot to it.
good luck
