Please see the below link which says that only General Training Ielts will be acceptable now. So academic is no more acceptable.

What else is required if the say these words :-
Note: IELTS has two options for the reading and writing tests: “General Training” and “Academic.” You must take the “General Training” option.

I already have an acedemic IELTS, and inorder for me to find a job as a nurse, I must also present an academic module result, so it means I need to take GT module then take Academic afterwards, that redundant..

Sir please reply on an urgent basis as im just about to file for PR... i gave IELTS on 10th April 2010 and it was Academic and got 8 Bands (L-9, R-8, W-7, S-7) Now do i need to repeat this test???

Hi Kunal,

If you have already applied to CIC before 26th June then its fine you come under old rules and Academic is fine. This new rules apply to only those who are applying to CIC after 26th June and they need to submit IELTS in the first stage. So dont panic if you have done academics thats fine.

Hi,

They have made it General module necessary for Immigration and after that if someone wants to study or there field requires them to have Academics Ielts then they will have to do Academic but General module is just for immigration.

Hiii Saki,

I was about to file for PR this week itself and this has come as bolt from the blue for me... I would come under the new rules which came into effect from 26th June... but I wrote IELTS on 10th April 2010.

Means I would have to write GT now... Writing IELTS is not a problem, but the wait period to get date for test and then waiting for results is a bit too much plus the fees that I would have to pay again... the situation is further aggravated by the fact that now u have only 1000 application per NOC... I just checked on net the date I am getting for British Council Exam is not before 31st July, which means if I write on 31st July, result will be out on 14th August and further 10 days for getting the physical copy of the IELTS test result, the whole process will put me back by more than a month... but if it is absolutely necessary I will write it... have no option...
