Hello,

I have got admission in Sheridan College for a 1 yr PG course and have paid my full tuition fees and even purchased a $10,000 GIC. Have take my pre application Medical Examination. My passport was expiring in Jan '14, So I even got it renewed under Tatkal.

Now, in a couple of days, I'll be applying for a study permit, and I'm confused whether to apply online or through VFS. The reason I want to apply online is that they require fewer documents to be uploaded, as in my case they require only

1. Application for Study Permit Made Outside of Canada (IMM1294)
2. Family Information (IMM5645)
3. Proof of Means of Financial Support
4. Proof of Medical Exam
5. Passport or travel document
6. Digital Photo
7. Letter of Acceptance

They are not asking for Academic records and Mark sheets, I've got few backlogs during my UG course and my academic session was also late by about an year. So, I think it would be better for me to apply online than submit a paper based application and increase my chances of rejection.

I'm not sure how much time they'll take for online processing, also whether they'll ask for my academic documents at a later stage or not. Also whether my application will be given priority processing under SPP or not if I apply online. So guys who have applied online please post your experience, also looking for inputs from experienced members of the forum.

Go for the online application as your application will be processed faster. If you want to upload extra documentation than what is required you can insert them into the letter of explanation field!

Faster than SPP?

hey kashif. you are right! i apologize. i forgot that this was an indian issue. it would be much beneficial for you to apply under the spp option although the process will require a lot more documentation.

The reason I want to apply online is because they are not asking for my previous academic records. I haven't done good in the initial years of my Engineering and have got few backlogs. I am afraid if I have to show them to the VO, I might face a rejection.
On the other hand I am not sure how much time does online application takes when applying from India, also whether my file will be given priority processing under SPP or not.
I have taken GIC, paid my 1 yr. tution fees, and have done the medical test.

hey kashif. you have done all the background work for the SPP however if you are heavily concerned that your grades will affect your chances at getting the visa then you should definitely apply online. by the way did you get your medical done by a CIC panel physician?

has anyone applied online from india and actually got a visa/study permit .....

Hello jesuscares, so for extra pages of IMM1294 formulary i can print out these pages and scan together the explanation letter? In my case i need to put information about 2 schools, one for ESL program (1 month), and other for diploma program (28 months), what do you think is better to go with explanation letter?

I and my bro had applied online last year. Both of us got approved. I know many others who got their visas from india by submitting online applications. It's way faster and easier.

Delhi CHC visa office will contact you after submitting your application online for your education marksheets. You have to then send your marksheets on an ID provided by the visa office. Backlogs really don't matter as far as i know. 6 of my friends from india are in canada right now. They had backlogs too but still all got visas. Make sure you only submit your final course marksheet and not your backlogs marksheet. Explain in the SOP as to why your academic session was late. SPP application is way faster but online is safer. Depends on how much time you have before your college starts. If you have around more than 1 month I would say go for online application. I got mine approved in 12 days. My brother got it approved in 1 month. Hope this helps.

i applied online on 31 May and waiting for decision. I am from India.

The Canadian government is favouring for online applications, so I definitely suggest you to apply online. The only reasons that I would not suggest to is if you have an issue to address properly through letter.

Bro i also had 6 backlogs in my bba course and also 6 months gap in completing graduation but in my case there is no where mention about backlogs abd i have 1 to. 6 sem marksheet only . But only prob. is that in all my marksheet its written cleared in nov 2013 . So what should i do ? Should only submit my last sem. Marksheet and degree and mention y 6 month gap in graduation in sop or should i submit all my marksheets from 1-6 sem. Also i had rejection under spp. Reason - proposed programme not in light of previous studies , academic scores, language ability.

I applied online and got reply in 3 days. They have asked me to send your passport. So online is the best option
