Hi Everyone,

I have applied thru online for an open work permit just yesterday. My current status here in Canada is visitor and since my husband is working in a skilled category, I am eligible to apply for OWP. My question is, do I need to undergo medicals? I did not do medicals before I came here in Canada. I read from a post here in the forum that someone applied also for OWP and was approved, but CIC told him by email to do medicals in 90 days.

However, my further concern is that, if I will be required to do the medicals, how will I do it if I am pregnant? and my due date will be on June 2014.
I am so confused and so afraid that CIC will not approved my application.

Any thoughts are welcome, please help.
Thank you.

If you were resident or lived in the listed countries, then you will require a medical http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/dcl.asp If you don't take the medical because of the pregnancy then you have a problem.

hi PMM,

Thanks for your reply. I am from the Philippines and yes, I will likely to undergo medicals.
I am just so worried I wont be able to do the xray because of my being pregnant.

I just hope, I would be granted an open work permit just like the others without having to do medicals right away.
I will just explain with CIC about my situation. :(

If you currently living in Canada for more than six month than no need for medical

Wrong, I suggest you read the following: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-temp.asp

If you are pregnant, then, they will not take x-ray, other formalities are simple and straightforward, no need to worry.

Good luck.

Hi there,

What is your husband job here in Canada? Did he sponsor you? How many years he's been here? Where can I get information about your situation at CIC website? Thank you

its say if you plan but what about person who already work in canada and renew work permit i think in this case dont need medical.

hi BigBee,

thank you so much for your reply. I just hope everything will be alright because I am getting so worried right now. I need my permit so I can apply for a SIN and health card. I will give birth on April 2014 and I know the cost of delivery here in Canada is really expensive, so I am really relying on my work permit right now so I can delivery my baby here for free.

hi Europegirl,

My husband is a cook. He did not sponsor me to come here to Canada. I came here as a visitor thru the help of my relative living in Ontario. When I and my then-fiance decided to get marry, I came with him here in Alberta and after getting our marriage certificate, I applied for an open work permit. He's been here since 2008. I am sorry but for some reason, I cannot post a link here.

Hey guys: Please guide me in my situation, I will try to keep it as simple as possible:

Both me and my wife are Pakistani citizens.

Myself:
- International student in Montreal
- Study permit valid until March 2016
- Graduating in June 2014

My wife:
- Recently arrived in Canada on TRV
- 4.5 months pregnant
- Wants to apply for Spouse Open Work Permit ASAP

Problem:
- Lets say she applies for SOWP right away, then:
- Will she be asked to do medicals? If so, does she need to do the x-rays too?
- Will she be granted the OWP or they will hold it until delivery?
- Does her pregnancy hinder her getting the OWP in any way?

What should we do? We want her to get the OWP so we can get covered for the delivery cost because by that time, I would also have my PGWP. Please advice asap, what should be the best strategy.

Thanks.
