Is it mandatory for online applicants to get visitor acknowledgment letter from the Visa office before actual approval/decision??

Yes.. got submission confirmation immediately after submission.. nothing after that..

I feel like crying, I promised my son his vacation in Canada and now we can't go anywhere because they have our passports. I hate disappointing my child. I tried calling,emailing and no response as to whats causing the delay. If i could just get back passport to alternative plans.

That's a sad situation to be in. You can email the local visa office to request for your passports to be returned. You can mention you have other travel plans. That said, you must clearly mention that your are NOT withdrawing/cancelling your visa applications + you will re-submit your passports when the visa office requests it

That's a sad situation to be in. You can email the local visa office to request for your passports to be returned. You can mention you have other travel plans. That said, you must clearly mention that your are NOT withdrawing/cancelling your visa applications + you will re-submit your passports when the visa office requests it

The local office told me the process of requesting the passports take 5-7 days.
