Online application - passport is renewed

Hi,

I am going to apply online for a visa for me and my wife. We are Russians, but live in Switzerland, so we are going to use Paris office.

The tip is planned to be in September. The passport of my wife is expiring soon, but the new one is already requested. So my question is the following: is it possible to make an online application with the passport that is still valid, but expires before the date of visit, and after the decision send a new passport to get visa stamped on it?

Good and bad in a way.

If your application is approve - you will have to submit the passport which you enter a PP # on application form, however, the down side of this is Canada dont issue visa beyond the passport life ( like the US) so you have get a visa with a short lift span.

Canada rules change where u can now travel on two passports. So assume u get visa affixed in "old passport" you can travel to canada using both until visa expire.

My personal advice is get a new passport when completing application. Save time an $$ if you plan to visit Canada regular.

Thanks for your quick response. It means that if the passport of my wife expires in July and I want to travel to Canada in September, the only way to get a valid visa for that time is to apply online only after we get a new passport, isn't it? I wanted to do it in advance to save time, as we will probably get a new passport only two weeks before the visit.

check out the application form. You need to fill out the data of your passport. You can't give data of the old passport and send a new one to be stamped.
