I'm planning to apply online sometime this week for Fall semester. Because of this strike, I'm concerned that the visa may take a little longer to process. I'm in the US and have valid TRV to enter Canada for 1 more year. I don't have a status in the US after September.

If my Letter of Invitation from the Consulate arrives before 1st of September, there are no issues. If it is delayed, I'm planning to enter Canada in TRV status as a visitor and NOT attend college. Then after I get the LOI, can I walk across the Peace Arch border and get my study permit stamped at the border?

Has anyone done this successfully? Or does anyone see any potential issues with this scenario? Appreciate any inputs.

Thanks.

only problem i see is u will need a valid US visa to cross the bridge....

affect of strike on study visa is less to none so don't worry about strike.

@mead & dipta

Thanks for your replies and words of encouragement. One more question, can I just park the car at the parking lot of the Peach Arch park on the Canadian side and walk inside the CBS office for stamping? For this, I guess I do not need any additional visa, as at this time, I'm not very inclined to apply for a US B2 visa just so I can cross the border.

i dont know if that will work or not.....if u could do that then u could just go to the airport and do the same thing....i believe u need to leave the country meaning get it stamped but again i am not sure....

If you are in Canada but applied from US then call The CIC and they will tell you what to do.

You don't need a US visa as you wouldn't actually need to cross the border. You tell the US immigration that you are flagpoling and they give you an administrative refusal; you take that back with you to the Canadian immigration.

A visa would only be needed if you wanted to actually cross the border and spend some time in the US.

You can update this spreadsheet with your profile. Till now no one got student visa from LA consulate.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmZuOpGyQcQYdFJ1RTBrcnlZTFNzNFhLUDJFUF9TbFE#gid=0

BTW, there are six people who have applied for student visa at the LA office . Three people applied at the beginning of april and three people in may first and second week. Till now there is absolutely no news from them. Please ask us , the people who have applied from LA. The effect of the strike is maximum for study permit here in LA. If you apply now, you will not get your visa before september.

@ Dipta- No offence Dipta, but you should be aware of these developments before giving someone false hope. We are the people suffering.

Please everyone check the spreadsheet I have put up. You will see the evidence.

Sorry for my post "affect of strike on study visa is less to none so don't worry about strike" I had no idea about LA I gave my post on the basis of India, Bangladesh and Pakistan and info from people in this forum.

On - there are six people who have applied for student visa at the LA office

Have these six people sent in a paper application or have they applied online?
