If you want a direct invitation, go the the Online citizenship grant page and keep refreshing the page for sometime. You'll then see a link on the top. That's what they are referring to as "direct invitation".

I don't know about you but EVERY TIME I visit this page, I see the banner on the top that reads this :

A new online citizenship application (e-app) is now available for some randomly selected applicants.

• are working to make sure that more people can apply online

If you’ve already applied on paper, do not apply online.

The section boxed in red is what appears to be the random section for applying online:

just after reading this thread, but when I refreshed that page, that section disappeared. So you just have to keep refreshing this page until that section appears.

I really don't understand why people are struggling with this. If you meet the requirements like single applicant, etc just use this link?

Reply from IRCC, I had written to update information on Q13 , I have applied online in May and one week later sent a paper application after IRCC replied on Twitter that online application is by invitation only. I expected they will not have my file updated as yet in the system but the underlined information is what got my attention

We verified the information you provided and can confirm that it is not necessary to update your information if you do not currently have an application in process with IRCC.

Since you currently do not have an application in process yet, the information you provided will not be added to your file.

In addition, some clients are offered the option of applying for Canadian citizenship online.

These clients can apply online only if they:

• Have been randomly selected,
• Are eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship,
• Have a valid email address,
• Are between 18 to 54 years of age when they submit their online application,
• Are applying for themselves only (without their family),
• Are not applying with a representative,
• Do not include time spent outside Canada in their physical presence calculationas a:
  • Crown servant, or
  • family member of a Crown servant.

Important

• If they have already applied on paper, they should not apply online.
• If they have already applied online, but have not yet received their acknowledgement of receipt letter/email, they shouldn't submit a subsequent application by mail or send a copy of their electronic application to the responsible office.

It's a good thing that they are at least acknowledging the fact that people can apply online and their call center knows about online applications.
This is the most important thing:

Before, the call center gave conflicting responses. We just have to wait for AOR

I also tried filling the web form in just to se if I could get answers as they are reviewing application received on April 9th. Yet I am still waiting on my AOR. Has anyone else who submitted Jan/Feb received an update?
Any info would be a great help. I just want to make sure my application is not lost or my fees are going to have be paid and new submission made

I'm in same situation. Submitted online on March 4, no AOR till date, not even a confirmation email after submission. Their website says they are sending AOR for applications received will of May 14, 2021. Tried reaching them all I get is automated responses.
