Hi guys, I would really appreciate your help. I am currently on one year study visa, working 20h a week. My visa expires 3 months after my graduation. I assume this is the time to apply for new visa, but I am not sure what would be my working situation. I am currently employed part time, but my company wants me to start working full time as soon as I finish my program. I am going to apply for postgrad work permit as soon as I get my diploma. But what in the meantime? I know that students get to work full time during summer brake, but I am not sure if I can consider this extra 3 months as my break? Have anyone had the same situation and knows how does it work? I would be more than grateful if someone could help me. Thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing from you :)

Yes, You can work full-time during this time while your post graduation work permit application is in process. it's your grace period. you can work as well if your study permit expire but your work permit application is in process so don't worry about this situation and start working.

Good luck with your work permit application.

Thanks,
Krunl

Thank you so much for your response!! But just to clarify - when I will be done with my studies I will have to wait a while for my diploma to apply for postgrad work permit. Can I work in that time as well? Before applying?

Thank you so much Krunal, I really appreciate it!

Once you finished your last week of college, wait for your marks and graduation list. Once you get you transcript and work-permit letter from college you can apply for your post graduation work permit any time. Please keep in mind, you must have to submit you work permit application before expiry of you study permit before at least 30 days.

You can start working full-time as you finished your last week of college. The thing is experience you gained before post-graduation work permit issue will not consider for Canadian work experience but you can start working full-time.

Thanks,
Krunal

I was exactly in the same situation as yours. I called CIC but they said as long as your PGWP is not under process which means you are not under implied status, you can't start working. . It's better if you call CIC to make this situation more clear.

Most of the time it depends on the company too. Would they allow you to start working without a work-permit? Just make sure if they are aware of your situation and paperwork you need before starting a full-time job in Canada. And if you need your PGWP soon, go for flag-polling. You will get it within an hour. Good Luck.

Hi I'm just wondering what is flag-polling? Is that going to the border and presenting your documents to be able to get your PGWP? thank you.

The law is not clear about this one. i do not know anyone who get punished for working after his studies, but before getting the PGWP.

No you can't. You should start school first before you can start working 20 hours a week.
