Hi, I just sent in the application together with the OWP application today, but on the OWP application i added "to process after AIP", I didn't know the work permits are being issued beforehand. My question is are they going to process my wp application through the pilot program or are they going to wait till the AIP since it says so on the work permit?

Hi all, my work permit expired on April 7 and I got 90 days for restoration. May 11 applied for visitor. My spousal application is finished. Under status I put Out of status- Restoration. Is it smart to send application and owp and explain them that I am waiting for visitor to get status or should I wait for visitor first then send spouse application and owp?

Wait until you get the visitor status, since right now you are out of status and not eligible for the OWP pilot, this means that if you decide to file your PR app now with OWP, you will not get your OWP before AIP which can take up to 16/17 months. When you have your visitor status and then apply, you will be considered "in status" and eligible for the OWP, in the case your status expires at that point after CIC has receivedyour PR + OWP applications, you will automatically have "implied status" as a visitor until you receive your OWP, which will take around 4 months this way instead of 16 or 17.

My best guess is that if you are lucky they will issue it as soon as possible, however since you put a note on there, they might screw you over and not issue the OWP until you have AIP. If I were you I would wait for Acknowledgement of Receiptwhich includes your application number and unique client identifier. Then send an email to both mississauga and vegreville or call the call center, explaining what happened and that you would like to correct your mistake. This way you might get lucky and get the OWP as quickly as possible.

thanks for the reply, looks like i screwed myself over, I followed some guide from 2014 then after i came back from the post office my wife shows me an article about the pilot programme. I better get ready to wait for 16 months+

p.s. what if i send another OWP application to Vegreville asap? If they go by my note they won't even open the application before i get AIP, but if I send another application to vegreville they can process the OWP faster? or it doesn't work like that?

Hi, there.
I need you guys to clarify some technical terms that CIC uses. And how can I take advantage of it.

Open Work permit received on: April 13, 2015
Decision assumed to be made on or before: August 13, 2015 (4 months)
Visitor Visa expires on : June 20, 2015

Question 1 is once I get my OWP on that day, my visitor visa will expire. During waiting for CIC respond for my OWP application, can I take advantage of "implied status"? which is an legal status that allows me to stay in Canada until their decision is made for my application.

Question 2 is I only got Canada post delivery certificate that shown that my application was received by Alberta CIC Office. I am not sure if my application are in process or incomplete. The Website shows that incomplete application is thought of never submitted application. I am worried if they send me back after my visitor visa expires. What should I do?

Question 3: For safety reason, is it a better way to extend my visitor record while applying for my OWP?

Thank you so much!

Hi All,

Is there a best practice to how this all should be organized? Should it be separated into 3 envelopes (sponsor / application / proof) for the PR and 1 for the OWP or 1 for each? If you can share that information in detail that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks

Unfortunately it doesnt work like that, since then you will have 2 applications for a work permit at the same time pending and they will then refuse both. Best thing in my opinion you can do is what I mentioned in my previous reply.

Thank you danny87 I just want to do a follow up. So this morning I called canada post location and they said the parcel will not be leaving until 2pm, and that I can come open it and replace whatever needs replacing ( you cannot cancel the shipment though) so me and the wife printed out a changed cover letter without the "process after AIP" part and inserted it in the envelope, and removed the "process after AIP" text from the OWP application envelope.

I called CIC as well beforehand and the agent told me I can file a new OWP application and adress it for Vegreville. Whichever they process first is valid, and the second one gets cancelled. Ofcourse you have to pay the fee again.

Hello everyone!

I have few question regarding one-year pilot OWP.

We have applied for Inland application (only PR) in Dec 2014. and we are planning to apply for OWP through pilot program.

1) My wife is an international student and hold study permit and off campus work permit (Exp on Sep/2016). Is she eligible for OWP?

2) After approval of OWP, is she able to study on OWP?

Please Advise!!!!!

Thank you so much :)

Below is my timeline:

Application sent : August 20, 2014
CPC - Mississauga (inland)
Application received : August 26, 2014
AOR : Sep 8, 2014
Application Return : Application package return on indicating missing document ( I submitted IMM1344 06/2014 and they required 08/2014 or later)
Aplication sent : Nov 05, 2014

The OWP my wife got from this program does not allow her to study "unless authorized".
I'm not sure what kind of authorization this would be, but the OWP you get might take your previous study permit into consideration when filling out the restrictions.

Although, I wouldn't give them that much credit.

I think that the OWP and study permit are completely different documents. The work permit allows you to work and the study permit allows you to study, so when the OWP states not allowed to study unless authorized, you will also need a study permit, which gives the authorization to study.

If this condition is not on the OWP, then you are allowed to study.

You're right. I have both and I am able to study for the validity of my Study Permit, even though I also have an OWP (2 separate docs). Also you can study in Canada for less than 6 months without a permit, as I recall.

Hi All

I'm about to mail in the documents to sponsor my wife within Canada. I'm sending an application for open work permit along with sponsorship allocation.

Her visa/stay in Canada expires in June (next month) Should I also separately apply to extend her stay as visitor in Canada, or is that automatically included as part of open work permit application ?

Thank you

You might want to extend her visitor status since they may not receive your application in time.

This could cause extra wait, my wife still had 3 months valid when we sent ours
