He is Canadian.... so why would he have any difficulty at the border? Any specific reasons?

Flying from the US as a Canadian with a one way ticket,he can be denied at airport because he has no return ticket, but he's driving back with them, wanting to know if there will be a problem or just say screw it and get the return ticket, to late to try and get a visa now,he leaves in 3 weeks

Can you share the source where this is stated?

As I read it your son is currently in the US and is flying one way domestic between 2 US cities (seaTac to Baltimore) then driving back to Canada. You are concerned if the one way domestic flight is an issue? Its not since immigration is not involved. His return to Canada won't be an issue either.

If the border CBP asks, can't you give a letter or something shows that once your son made to Baltimore by plane, he would be staying with grandma for 4 months and then grandma would give him a ride back to Canada?

It wasn't obvious in your initial post that he was travelling from Canada to SeaTac. I don't see why CBP will sweat him on the initial entry...they will see presumably 3 Canadians in a vehicle and ask why you are wanting entry into the US. Say catching a flight and if they ask the travel to Baltimore. If not proceed as normal. Its not an unusual thing for Canadians to seek entry and fly from inside the US (everyone Knows you can save major $$ doing this) but CBP may wonder why he has to be in the US for such a long time. Is he a minor? Why is he staying there so long...be prepared with answers to this.
