One way plane ticket to land in canada as a resident

I have a question does anyone have experience with landing in canada as a resident but purchasing a one way ticket to come, does it really matter and is it okay to purchase a one way ticket as you are landing in canada and not planing to leave because you want to build your life and do not know when your next vacation will be what is the best thing to do. Is it better to have a back up reservation booked and will the airport give you issues when landing. Please help, thank you.

one way ticket is fine since u are permanent resident unless ur travel as tourist

what about entering as a temporary resident because it expires in three years but you cannot buy a ticket for that far in advance

if you are landing in canada as a pr....of course you should buy a one way ticket unless you plan to leave again shortly after you arrive and I belive your pr card is good for 5 years...not sure what you mean by temporary resident??? do you have your visa and/or copr???

well than a one way ticket is still fine since you aren't planning on travelling back right away.....

I arrived in Canada to land as a PR using one way tickets. I was required to submit my passport details online because I was buying a one-way ticket into a country I am not a citizen of, so I chose "resident" where I was prompted to indicate my status in Canada. We had no problems being issued a ticket/itinerary and I landed with no issues at all.

I think it's fine to get a one-way ticket. I used one when I travelled to Canada for a Working Holiday program (1 year), and had no problems buying it.

At the airport, though, while I was doing the check-in, the lady on the other side of the counter did ask me about it, but a near-by co-worker (more experienced, I would guess) told her that if you have a 1 year or longer permit for the country you're travelling to, then you don't need the return ticket.

I hope my experience helps I can't say if that rule only applies to my country, though.

It is cheaper considering how much each ticket costs... but one way ticket is cheaper as a final cost.
