One Way or Return Ticket?

I have received approval of my sponsorship for my South Korean wife (in September 2013), but my wife hasn't received her visa yet.

I would like to begin selling my house here in Korea, and leave June 2014. I am a Canadian citizen as is our son. My wife's visa may still not be ready by June.

3 people would be traveling to Vancouver, myself (citizen), my son (citizen), my wife (non-citizen awaiting visa).

Could I buy 3 one-way tickets? Or two one-ways and one return? Would I make my wife's return 6 months?

Any advice would be appreciated.

So one of you are returning to Korea? then it makes sense to buy 1 return ticket, otherwise don't see how it makes sense. Seems since you are moving permanently to me. That being said do you plan to visit Korea a lot after moving to Canada? If so, it could make sense to buy all return tickets with open "return" as 1+1 single is often more expensive than 1 return ticket.

Are you thinking in terms of your wife who is awaiting her visa? if so, she could travel now as a visitor, but she would need to LAND officially again once her VISA is done.

I am thinking my wife might require a return ticket because she'd only be a "visitor" status, and if me and my son had one-ways it might make her planned return questionable.

Are you travelling now, or in June? i think your application should be done by then. If it isn't completely done by then, they will likely have requested your wife's passport by then (in which case she cannot travel at all)

Koreans are visa-exempt so they don't request passports.

As long as the non-Canadians have return tickets, that is all that matters. Many times the immigration officer you get in Canada, doesn't even bother checking if the visitor actually has a return ticket, and they just rubber stamp a 6-month visitor status. Just make sure you only used words like "visiting" or "tourist"... and NOT words like "living" or "moving".

if PR still isn't finished after the 6 months, she can always just apply for visitor extension instead of returning.

Also make sure to change her address with CIC to your Canada address, so if PR is completed Manila can mail the COPR directly to Canada.

Wrong, if they don't request her passport, how will they issue the VISA and glue into her passport making LANDING in Canada possible?

Visa Exempt countries get CORP, which is a document the VO issues and mails to the applicant, they don't get issued a visa, therefore no need to submit a passport.

that's odd, since i am from a Visa Exempt country (Sweden), and I was asked to submit my passport.....

Likely it was a standard letter. the VO sends out generic letters in a lot of the cases, not really pertaining to the applicants personal situation.

Visa-exempt applicants don't need a special visa to go to Canada (hence the term visa exempt). All they need is the COPR, and they can simply show up in Canada to do the landing. My wife is Korean and she never had to send a passport in.

Most visa-exempt applicants get a request for passport copy, not physical passport. This means they photocopy the bio page of passport and email it in.

You are from Sweden but you went through Hong Kong visa office, which i imagine is one of the reasons you got asked to submit your actual passport. Although it does point out though that even though it's not required, you never know what the visa office will ask for.

Do you honestly think that the officer sits there and types out an email or letter to an applicant? What they do is they take a precedent letter (e-mail) request, they should go through it and delete what does not apply, but sometimes they miss things.

Just got my "COPR" in the mailbox, have to say i expected a VISA Now i guess its just to show up at the airport with these 2 COPR papers
