When I submitted the application I didn't due a medical for my wife, I just noted "will do when requested". Now they requested it (along with Appendix A, a Korean Entry and Exit Certificate, and 3 photos). So it seems to have been no problem waiting until requested.

When we were completing the application we called the hospital in Haeundae to do the medical check. The secretary said not to do it until they request it because with the delays in processing we'd probably have to do it again.

I am thinking my wife might require a return ticket because she'd only be a "visitor" status, and if me and my son had one-ways it might make her planned return questionable.
