One Month After Landing to Toronto

Dear All:

Its now one month after my landing to Toronto. I have few observations to share with you.

1. The best time for landing is Mid August, why becasue June July all odd jobs taken by the students and you will not get any part time job. If you land by the mid August first 15 days you will take to complete your SIN & driving formalaties. So by spetember you will be ready with your driving license and work.

2. Taking a driving license is quite eassy if you are a safe driver. My recommendation is to pratice online G1 test( that is written Test). So after your SIN you can immediately appear for the G1 Test. After clearing the G1 Test tie up with any driving school for G2 test if you are good driver they will take 02 -03 classes and apply for your road test and than it is your skills and luck. Me & my wife both got the license within 8 days with only 02 classes in our first attempt. So everyone can do.

3. Jobs are really scare so be prepare and spend enough time to reserch. The best thing is timing of landing to get the part time or odd jobs and your sucess depends as early as you can upgrade your education with Canadian degrees & diplomas.

4. Reference are very important do not shy to utlize all your refernces.

5. People from DUBAI - You may not impressed by Canada in your first glance it seems to a be village comparing Dubai. Since I moved from Dubai so my daughter at airport said "Dad are we in Canada or in Village? but the best thing is people are good & friendly. I have been visiting all places inclding Govt offices I found Canadain very friendly.

Secondly if you have driving license from Dubai do not forget to take the verification letter from RTA. This will make you legible to apply for G directly after written test of G1.

Now the waether is getting coller at night so bring light jackets with you.

Rest it is a wonderful place just we need to exert more to get settled initially.

Wish you all the best of luck.

Thanks

Hi Benjamin: If you take lessons and learn how to drive before leaving India it will certainly speed things up for getting your licence in Canada. However, we drive on the "other side" of the road in Canada, so you might think of waiting and taking your lessons when you arrive. Do some research on driving lessons in the city in which you plan to live. There are many companies, but Young Drivers of Canada has offices across the country and they teach all ages. Good Luck.

Congratulations and goodluck on your new life in Canada.

My family is also currently based in Dubai where as you know during SALE season discounts could go as high as 70% or even 80%. So do you think it is better to buy here winter clothes (and even summer clothes) in terms of price? I see also some really thick winter jackets at Chicco for kids, do you think that would do in Canada? What other things are practical to bring from Dubai Appreciate your feedback once you have settled in and find time to visit this site again. Thanks in advance.

Dear Pachochay:

The winter cloths qulaity I have seen in Canada is very good, I dont know what kind of jacket you have seen in Dubai because I could not find any good jacket. iF YOU ARE COMMING IN aUGUST THAN BUY ALIGHT JACKET AND BUY GOOD WINTER JACKETS FROM CANADA i HAVE SEEN VERY GOOD QUALITY jACKETS HERE AT $100 WHEREAS YOU CAN GET THE SAME STUFF IN DUBAI IN 350DHS.

SECONDLY IF YOU HAVE A DRIVING LICENSE FROM DUBAI DO NOT FORGET TO TAKE THE LETTER FROM RTA, TRY PRACTICE TEST G1 ONLINE THE DAY YOU LAND NEXT DAY FINISH YOUR SIN FORMALATIES AND THAN GO FOR G1 TEST. AFTER GETTTING THE MINIMUM G2 OR G LICENSE YOUR LIFE WILL BE START SETTLEING YOU HAVE MORE CHANCE TO GET THE ODD OR PART TIME JOBS.

THE PRICES HERE ARE DIFFERENT FROM PLACE TO PLACE SO DO R&D BEFORE BUYING. I TOOK THE CAR ON RENT AND HAVE ROUND OF ALL TORONOTO, I USED BUS & TTC TO UNDERSTAND THE ROADS AS QUICK AS YOU GET IN TO THINGS YOU WILL GET THE RESULTS.

PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWSPAERS & CRAIGLIST ARE THE BESTSOURCE FOR JOBS.

IF YOU ARE MUSLIM YOU WILL LITTLE PROBLEM TO FIND HALAL MEAT BUT YOU WILL GET IN ALL TOWNS. YOU DO NOT HAVE LIBERTY LIKE IN DUBAI TO EAT AT KFC OR ANY FOOD COUR DUE TO LIMITED AVAILABILTY.

REST ONCE YOU COME YOU WILL HAVE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE. BE POSITIVE AND READINESS TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE.

TO CHANGE THE LIFE STYLE CANADIAN EDUCATION IS MUST, SO MANY COLEEGES ARETHERE CAN OFFER COURSES AS PER YOUR JOB REQUIREMENTS.

THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOL IN JOB SEARCH IS YOUR REFERNCES. IF YOU HAVE GOOD ENOUGH REFERNCES YOU WILL HAVE MORE CHANCE TO GET THE JOB SOON.

TAKE CARE
