Hi everyone, I have run into a bit of an issue. The father of my children is now not wanting my kids to join me in canada until next june. I was approved recently, and have a landing date of october 16th. I am under the impression that if my kids wait that long to join me in canada they will lose their pr status, am I correct? This is somewhat of a timely issue so any advice or links would be extremely helpful. Until you gain citizenship, you have to spend the majority of your time in canada, right?

In the worse case scenario, would my kids be eligible for a minor student visa, even though I have pr status? The only reason they would be getting a student visa is if they had to revoke their pr status. To be clear, I do not want this to happen and am trying my hardest to prevent it. We have paid a lot of money to get pr status. I am extremely frustrated that this is all coming up now.

Your children must land (enter Canada and become PRs) before their visa expiry date. Othewise you will have to sponsor them again from scratch.

Once they have landed, they must live in Canada two out of every five rolling years to maintain PR status.

They can wait until next June to move to Canada and this won't cause any problems for their PR status - providing they enter Canada and become PRs before their visas expire (they can leave right after landing - even the same day).

Hope this helps.

for me the best thing is for you to land with your kids and let them go back to their father until June, after landing they're allowed to be out of the country for two years without putting their pr status at risk..

So, if they are out of the country for two of the three years (this is the point when I plan to apply for citizenship), can I still apply for their citizenship, and will they be eligible for citizenship?

I want to get our citizenship in three years. What are the requirements then for applying for citizenship for minors? I have seen conflicting information.

If they will be under 18, they can go on your application (and don't need to have lived in Canada 3 years). However, you will need to have been in Canada at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before applying.

The requirements are listed here on CIC's website.
