As a protected person, I did not apply for a travel document before.
I wonder if we can apply the Canadian Passport once we become PR.
Or do we need top apply travel document as a PR if we want to travel to another country for a short time?

You can only apply for a Canadian passport after you become a Canadian citizen. PRs do not qualify for Canadian passports. To qualify to apply for citizenship, you must meet the residency obligation and have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years. Two of these years must be post PR. You can also count the time from when you officially became a protected person until you got PR, but only at a 1/2 credit for each day you spent in Canada and up to a maximum credit of 1 year. Once you have a Canadian passport, you no longer required an RTD to travel. While you are a PR, you will require an RTD to travel.
