Hello

On the CIC website it states that immediately upon the decision for Permanent Residency being approved, the PA must move to Canada.

Does anyone have experience on what is an acceptable / reasonable timeframe?

By way of background, I will be starting my new position in June 2018 and am considering when my wife should apply (Greek national but we reside in London).

Any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance.
Alex

Nearly impossible to say. They will probably send the app to Rome, which seems to be all over the place with times. Some people very fast; other people complaining it's been over a year. However; it also depends on the person applying. Since your spouse is from a visa-exempt country, the process will likely be straightforward. My educated guess is apply about 6 months before you want to move. She can always come to Canada during the process.

As for time, you are permitted to land before the medical exam expires, which is 1 year from the date of the medical exam. If takes 6 months to process, she'd have ~6 months to land, depending on when they request the medical.

Are you able to point out exactly where this statement is made?

Not quite on the CIC website, but the following declaration had me wondering...I appreciate this relates to the Sponsor and NOT the PA, but I wanted to check nonetheless. Thank you for your replies.

Form - IMM1344E

Sponsor Residency Declaration states:

"Immediately after my spouse, CL or conjugal partner and dependent children become permanent residents, I intend to live in... a Canadian province"...

right, because they don't want the PR spouse living in canada without their canadian sponsor spouse.

the approval paper the applicant receives will have an expiration date on it. they must land as a PR by that date, which usually coincides with the 1 year anniversary of the medical. However, there are people who receive less time to land. it's impossible to say how long an applicant will have to land until you get your approval paper.

They must land before the Medical or Passport expires....whichever expires first.

Here is what is states on the website:

How long is a permanent resident visa valid?
A permanent resident visa is issued for a period not extending beyond the earliest expiry date of the sponsored person’s (and any family members):

medical results
passports

Important information: Once issued, permanent resident visas cannot be extended. If applicants do not use the visas within their validity period, they must re-apply for immigration to Canada. Their sponsor will have to submit a new sponsorship application and pay new processing fees.

This question is only which province you want to live in immediately after landing.
It does not require you to land immediately after receiving your approval. If your COPR is valid for some months after you receive the approval you can wait before landing. Your spouse could also land and return back for some time (as long as you're not violating residency obligations).
