On work permit, sent in app for visitor visa, can I also send in student app?

Hi Guys,

Currently on a working holiday visa IEC. Expires April 29, 2016.
I have already sent in my application to extend my stay as a visitor from April 30 - September 7 as I will follow a short- term course.

I was just notified that I have been accepted into a program I applied for at Humber College in Toronto starting September 8 2016.

I wanted to know:

Can I also apply for my student visa from within Canada while I am on this work permit? AKA Applying for 2 statuses under one work permit but for different times.

Has anyone done this before?
Any insight!?

1. yes you can apply for Study permit while in Canada.

2. There is no guarantee that you would get visitor visa, so I would apply for SP before your work permit expired.

Yes I am aware.
But have you ever heard of anyone applying for both of these under the same original work permit. Just for different time periods?
