Hi,

I started my job since a month now but unfortunately I really don't like the company. I would like to look for a new job. I know I would have to apply for another work permit, but how would I justify that I want to change my job? I mean, I am already on a work permit, these guys in the immigration will wonder...

What do you advise?

Thanks!

LMiA?
What is it?LMO? I don't need an LMO for my profile.
What kind of permit do you have? A closed work permit or an open work permit?

It is a closed work permit unfortunately...
Why do you think you dont need a LMIA if you are on a closed work permit?

Certain conditions make you exempt from LMO. In my case this is because of ob 4xx ... I don't remember the exact number I have it on another computer. It is to promote french culture accross non french provinces of Canada.

Please advise in respect to OP.

Thanks!

I guess you're referring to http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob429.asp

You needed a job offer in order to get a WP the first time around, so the same applies if you want to get a new WP in the same category. It's not uncommon for people to change jobs once they get here - for better pay, better working conditions, etc. As long as the new job offer is legitimate, you probably won't have trouble with CIC.

Thank you, what you said makes sense. Also, the ob you referenced is the one I was talking about.

My concern is about my current WP. Say I apply for a new one, what happens to the old one? Do they cancel it? I mean, I am afraid that it gets cancelled even though the 2nd one is not approved!

Why you do not need LMIA as you have said previously? I have knew someone with 3 valid working permit existing but you need yo choose which should exist.

Not to worry, just because you apply for a new WP, your current one will not automatically get cancelled. You can keep working on the current WP as long as it's valid or until you get the new WP and switch jobs.
