On-line Residence Calculator Question

I have a concern with regards to the "# Days" column that the On-line Residence Calculator calculates. For example, I traveled to the US as follows

Exit from Canada: 16 April 2014
Entry to USA: 16 April 2014
Exit from USA: 21 April 2014
Entry to Canada: 21 April 2014

My understanding is that the 16th and 21st of April should not be counted as days outside of Canada since I did spend part of that day in Canada, so technically this trip should count as 4 days outside of Canada (17th, 18th, 19th, and 20th).

In the On-line Residence Calculator if I enter
From Date: 2014-04-16
To Date: 2014-04-21

it calculates the "# Days" as 5 instead of 4.

How should I be filling in the On-line Residence Calculator to ensure the correct calculation?

TIA

The day you left Canada OR the day you returned is counted as a day outside Canada, but not both. If you left on the 16th and returned on the 21st, that's an absence of 5 days.

Thanks for clarifying.

Hi
Can any one tell if we have to add CIC calculator sheet for minors? I am applying for me and my 2 kids in May 2015. I have my CIC calculator but do I need one for them as well? (i.e.: their absence and travels... )

I believe in the check list CIC did not ask.. but just to be on the safe side if any one can shed some more light on this..!?
thanks.
