Hey guys,

I have heard from 2 separate people now that my husband can get an ohip card if we are married.

I am a born canadian citizen and my husband and I are about to apply inland for Spousal sponsorship.

We have been married for 4.5 months. Can I get him Ohip just by us being married?

Not until his status changes. When he is approved for PR, he can start applying. It is a 3 month wait, even for returning citizens

Getting married to a Canadian does not grant any rights at all.
If you have a medical plan at work, they may add him to that when you can prove you are married.

A lot of plans like this require you to have a provincial health plan.

Yes it is confirmed to be true. my daughter had to wait for 3 months even she's a Canadian by birth..she had to wait til she had her citizenship paper *AND* she had to be living in Ontario for 3 months. Pretty much 3 months wait is the standard for almost everyone who has a status and residing in Ontario it seems like. If you are not sure be sure to call them.

My OHIPP is going to kick in at the end of this month (finally!) and 3 months wait from landing applied for me as well. Good luck.

I was lucky also that my husband's work plan didn't have a restriction, but could add me straight away.

Gemauru, I cannot see anything when I put the link in my address bar with "www"

It just brings me to the regular family class sponsorship page.

This is the thread:
OHIP for sponsored immigration applicants
« on: February 28, 2011, 08:59:59 am »

And this is the quote from JamWen7.

Quote from JamWen7
I read too many misleading about this. So, I will set it straight:
For the sponsored immigration applications (no matter where the application is submitted.), if the applicant has been in Ontario, Canada for 3 months, then he/she is eligible for OHIP, which is confirmed by OHIP. The only argument here is the confirmation of the immigration application. OHIP says it should be a confirmation letter from CIC. But the CIC does not agree. (I got the CIC response.) And the most important is that the LAW does not require the confirmation letter, only the confirmation. And I think for the sponsored immigration applications, as long as the sponsorship is approved, then it is confirmed by CIC. However, the person I sponsored is not in Canada yet, so OHIP can not assess my case. So, I\'d like to see if someone does it. If someone has the same case and got refused by OHIP, I will provide legal assist for free.
