OHIP Questions

Hello I am currently living in Ontario and did not want to apply for OHIP until I was sure to settle here. Unfortunately due to a sudden medical concern , I applied for OHIP and used it immediately after applying which was more than 4 months after living in the province. Right now , I am about to leave Ontario due to financial reasons. By the time I live Ontario , I would have spent 172 days starting from my landing date. Do I have to reimburse the province for the cost of healthcare that I received? Does OHIP cover me while waiting for healthcare in my new province? Thank you.

Hi I believe if you have stayed in Ontario for 153 days from the date of landing, you don't need to reimburse the cost of healthcare cost to the province and you are covered by it while waiting for healthcare coverage in a new province.

Hello I wanted to correct what I said in my previous comment. I called Service Ontario and they said you have to count the 153 days from the date you applied for the health card not from the date you landed in Canada. What it is provided on the website is very confusing. For anyone , please double check with Service Ontario before making any decision.
