It states here that you can renew your OHIP if you have applied for PR. (http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/publications/ohip/ohip_eligibility.aspx)

You may be eligible for the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) if you are included under one of the following categories:

.............
you have submitted an application for permanent residence in Canada, and Citizenship and Immigration Canada has confirmed that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence in Canada ;
I called Service Ontario today, asking what proof did I need to show them that I have applied.
They said I need to show an IMM1000 document, but according to this discussion (http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/%C3%A6your-record-of-landing-imm-1000-or-confirmation-of-permanent-residence-imm-5-t150144.0.html), the IMM1000 hasnt been used since 2002.

Has anyone succeeded in getting OHIP on implied status? What proof did you bring to show them?

Thanks.

the 'new' IMM1000 is now the COmfirmation of Permanent Residence or COPR for short.

You can only get OHIP if you are being sponsored by a spouse and have cleared the first stage known as AIP and have a letter confirming that you are, in fact, eligible to apply for PR or if you have already landed and have your COPR.

The only other applicants that can get OHIP are some of the students as well as those with working permits which allow them at least 1 year minimum of work.

What does AIP stand for?
Approval In Principle - this is the first stage approval of inland spousal sponsorship applications. Right now it's taking around 16 months to get AIP after the application is submitted.
