Hi,
So I have been living/working in the UK since September. Before I left I got my OHIP coverage extended to cover my out of country. Originally my contract was till the end of May so they would only give me my out of country OHIP till then. However I extended my contract till end of June in about April and completely forgot about my OHIP. A letter was sent to my parents house but they just put it in my old room and did not really think about it until the other day when I mentioned how I just noticed my OHIP was expiring at the end of the month.

I sort of looked into what I can do to get it renewed while abroad but the documents I have to send in have to be originals and I sort of need some of those here with my in the UK, like my passport, or drivers licenses or credit card (also not comfortable sending those in the mail). I have some of the other things back home but it is all packed away in boxes in storage and I wouldn't even know where to tell my parents to start looking for that stuff, especially for part 3 of the list I was given to reference as its largely just photo id and I have all of that with me and need it.

Also for other details I came home over Christmas and actually used my OHIP coverage. I came back in January and have been here since. I plan to try calling tomorrow to see what I can do. If I let it expire what is the process to getting coverage back? I remember the lady telling me something about how I can go 7 months out of the country with out it or something like that (it was so long ago I can't remember exactly now) so would I be fine? Thank you.

You can be outside ON for up to 7 months in any 12 and still keep it. If you are outside more, you have to ask their permission and they may allow it depending on the circumstances. If you completely lose your coverage, you will have to apply for OHIP again when you return and you will have a 3 month waiting period before your coverage kicks in again.

The expiry date on it is the end of this month (May) and I am suppose to be back in June. So will that mean I will have to do the 3 month period? Or do I have those 7 months.

How long were you outside already? In my opinion, you should clear this with OHIP. Ultimately, they are the ones that will decide if you keep or lose your coverage.
