I've never even had the slightest issue travelling anywhere. Barely a question asked about anything. Guess I've just been lucky patiently_waiting.

You all make me afraid of going back home to the US. Haven't been back in two years. They're going to rip me to shreds.
I don't think citizens should be treated like criminals and have to go through interrogation when they are visiting their own country. I mean when I crossed Canada I saw how they treated their citizens. All they asked was if they had a nice trip, had anything to declare, and said "Welcome Home". How nice is that! And I don't think my hubby had too bad of a time crossing. He crossed at Newark, NJ and he was sent back and forth between officers. He just said, "I have already seen that guy." Officer, "Oh you have." Hubby, "Yes, do I need to go back over there?" Officer looks at the other officer and says "No you can just go on now." What was the point of asking the same questions over, wasting valuable time, and being tossed back and forth between officers when he was already proven to be a genuine visitor.

I mean I understand them being a bit concerned because he had a lot of medicine to carry for his disease and didn't have a return ticket but that is it. The only thing the officer wanted to make sure of was that my hubby wasn't going to regret meeting someone online. Really? My hubby tends to be good at pointing out the obvious and sometimes making them feel silly for how they are acting to the point they just leave him alone. And he doesn't do it in a rude or obvious way. He is just good at making them realize that they are acting irrational. I can't see him having too much trouble crossing again when we visit again or at least I hope not. Ugh I just wish sometimes we had both been born and in a relationship in another era. Things wouldn't be how they are now.

Oh loveyoung, don't be scared. I think we were just trying to point out that entering any country can be stressful. When me and two friends went across the border at Christmas ( we were going to see my dad for new years in Florida) they almost didn't let us because they felt it was weird that they were going to see my family... I have had some weird responses to crossing the border but that one took the cake!! Unfortunately as always, some people have ruined it for everyone else. As long as you are honest and you have your passport everything will be fine. Sorry !! xxx :)

Oh and when I crossed into Canada for the first time ever, I was sent to secondary but I had rightful reasons to be. I was naive and thought I could live and work here. I even told them that. :-[ I didn't have any funds, no ties to home, and no return ticket. They interviewed me very nicely for about 30-45 minutes and just told me what I can and can't do here. I never felt threatened but was uncomfortable just because I never crossed the border before and didn't know what was going on. I just wanted to be beside my hubby (bf at the time). I believe I told her that I only wanted to stay for 4 months and she gave me a visitor record for 4 1/2 months. I think she did this because she knew at the time I wanted a work permit or might want to extend my stay so she gave me that to be able to do it easier. She even explained step by step how to apply for both a work permit and extension. No problems at all really. They were sweet here. And on my FOSS notes, there wasn't anything of concern about the crossing so I was relieved. So if worse comes to worse and I get refused, I hope I don't have too hard of a problem to visit again. Now lets hope we don't get refused, we won't have worry about crossing until I hopefully get PR and it should be easier then.

P.S. If you are crossing from the east coast I definitely recommend crossing at St. John's. Very small, polite, and easy going.

That is true that other people have ruined it for all of us unfortunately. That definitely sounds like a weird visit for sure. The things they are concerned about can be understandable but other times if leaves you thinking "Really this is what you are worried about?" But we will be prepared whenever we travel from here on out. Lets just hope it goes easier. Also, sorry for all my posts. :-X

Yeah I'm with you, in the last roughly three years I've traveled 22 times to over a dozen different countries and have not had a single issue anywhere at any time. The only minor issue was my last trip to Canada... very funny considering I was born there. But it too was a mere blip.

Sorry but no way for me to know that based on the post I guess there is some sort of board "in joke" I am missing.

But my points are still valid for me.

The only issues I've ever had were traveling in and out of the US. I've done the trip Mexico-US-Canada || Canada-US-Mexico 3 times now and all three times:

Mexico: Sure, go on, have a nice trip!
US: (in engrish) joo? heer. Com heer. Mhmm ... jes, ok. (lets me through; I felt like cattle).
Canada: Can I see your passport? What are you gonna do here? ok, (stamps) Welcome to Canada.

Canada: Did you have a nice time? alright see ya!
US: (in engrish) No. Go. Take shit off (I had maple leaves on my passport). Ok. (let's me through)
Mexico: Welcome back!

And that's not even counting the horrors passing through the metal detectors. One time I had to travel with a broken foot and they wouldn't take me jumping or passing through other scans. They wanted me to walk. With a broken foot

The one time they pulled me over fromt he line at the Calgary airport I even blurted out that my then girlfriend was underaged haha... I felt like:  what did i do?! . But she asked for a phone number, I told her she was at the exit waiting for me, she went see her and had a small talk with her (and her ~7 ft tall, 300 lb dad – 2 m tall, 140 kg dad), and she said: "go to her!, she's waiting for you!" (yes she was excited too). That was such a nice experience.
