Off Campus Work Permit.

Please tell us which college told you this and when. This is highly interesting.

The reason is that dec 2012, CIC proposed changes they wanted to implement jan 1 2014 that students can work off campus from day one and don't have to wait 6 months. Since then there hasn't been much info apart from rumour that this is delayed until spring 2014.

If your college knows something different, that is VERY interesting. So far nothing has been published on CIC, apart from the proposal, so until it is posted on the CIC page, I am not going to believe any such information. I'm just curious to know which college you're at and why they would send out an email saying that.

I went to the international centre at my campus yesterday and spoke to my goto person. She was very surprised why a college would tell a student something like this when no one knows yet if it will come true on jan 1st or not. Basically we can just sit and wait or, as she suggested, call the number on the back of the student visa and ask.
