Hi all,
I just landed in Toronto 2 days ago. After stamping my passport with my landing date and giving me an immigration document, I asked the immigration officer if I need to apply for a off campus work permit and she said yes! She mentioned that it is because I have a conditional offer in my LOA which is "Foundation-level english, you are required to take this course on your first semester." However, the course is really part of GBC's program for the 1st semester.
After reviewing the new guidelines in cic.gc.ca regarding the changes implemented after June 1 2014, it states there that the study permit holders in Canada may gain work experience by working off campus while completing their studies.
As of June 1, 2014, you may qualify to work off campus without a work permit. If you qualify, your study permit will allow you to work up to 20 hours per week. I am enrolled in a designated learning institution and a full time student taking up a diploma program. I applied for SP on JUNE 16 2014 which means that I should get an automatic work permit as I have a valid SP right?
Need your thoughts about this. if you have the same experience as mine, I will appreciate if you can share it with the rest of us here in this forum.
Thank you very much and more power.
