hi ,
i am posting this for one of my friend.
well ,masters students in Canada are not off for summers like the undergrads do.
He even though registered full time (in project phase period) is working like 40-50 hours a week ,instead of working on project and the school is cool about it ,since u can get extension and complete project in longer duration if one wishes to.

My questions ,
1-will my friend can get in trouble due to exceeded working hours (more than 20 hours/week)? as i heard that CIC assumes that in Summers all the students are free, and can work full time. is that the case?
2-How do CIC calculate the hours ? (is it when they receive the tax returns? from the T4 slips where hours are mentioned) or they have their own criteria?

thanks
P.S it'll help a lot of students since most of the students due to financial burden practice so

cheers

1. If he is registered full time student and has classes in session then the maximum he is allowed to work is 20 hours per week. Summer, winter and reading weeks when he don't have classes in session he can work full time.

Quote: "Some intensive programs may not have scheduled breaks or may have a break specifically for that program. Students participating in such programs would, therefore, be limited to working a maximum of 20 hours a week during the entire period"

you are right inam ,
but i have not seen or heard even a single case in which a student was caught violating this rule.
Coz most of the students do violate this.
i know CIC can keep track from SIN ,how many hours the students is working.
i am looking for something details on this issue ,coz most of the people take this easy.

Students must understand their responsibilities in agreeing to participate in the OCWP. Failure to comply with the terms and conditions of their work or study permit or with the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations may result in enforcement action by the Canada Border Services Agency. It may also negatively affect other future applications under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
