I wasn't able to see an update online until 3 and half months later. So, just be patient. I sent my application roughly a month earlier than you did.

Looks like 98% of the Oct applicants are now in Process.
How do you folks know that your application was transferred to your local office? Cant we assume that 'In Process' date is the date when the file was transferred to the local office.

Usually at the initial stage there remain two lines: one is 'Received' and another one is 'In process'. Few days later the 'Received' status disappears. I have come to know from other threads that when the 'Received' status is gone it is seemed that around that time the file is transferred to Local Office.

This was the old definition of "in process", today, in process simply means that your application has been received and Sydney started processing it. Many people complained to CIC about this issue.
However, now with them speeding up the processing, many of the former definitions will have to change again to reflect a new reality.
On this issue, three totally unrelated friends of mine who applied from montreal in 2011 received their notices to appear for the citizenship test in the coming weeks, things are moving and I am almost sure that someone is emptying up the inventory to start fresh and sweet as soon as the new legislation comes into effect! A person who applied in november is reportedly going to sit for the test at the end of february, this is Fast and Furious fast. Not that I am against this or that I am complaining, but honestly, what happened between 2011 and 2014 ? They were not processing applications ? They had one guy doing all the job by himself ? Was Jason Kenney the worse citizenship and immigration minister ever ?

From what I am seeing, the Montreal and the Toronto offices are starting to move really fast, and these are usually the most crowded offices, and that's also where most of the backlog is located. Toronto seems to be faster than Montreal, but Montreal is catching up slowly but surely. We will see in the coming weeks what will happen. Honestly, I don't think that this trend will continue forever, it surely costs too much and requires a lot of personnel, that's why I think that they are spending more money in order to clear the biggest part of the backlog and to take care of as many applications as possible before they table the new law. This also makes me come to the conclusion that the changes in the new law are going to be drastic. Nothing happens without a reason and CIC is surely trying to limit the consequences of having too many potential unhappy people ready to attack in case a very controverial bill is tabled. 350 000 potential protestors, that's way too much for the conservative government to digest before the coming elections! Also, if 10% of those who are in the backlog decide to file a lawsuit, again, that's a lot of problems that Harper would love to avoid before the coming elections. That's my not too wild guess....
