No matter what the reasons are the inefficiency, if my efficiency had come down this low I would have been fired long back at my workplace. I have called them several times, and the answer remains same. "Everything looks good you have to wait". Wait for what- For people who applied 1 yr later after me to get to the finish line? This is a joke now - both who are in the system and those who are outside justifying it. On top of that I received survey recently stating that a decision was made on your application - so much so for rubbing salt on the wound.

Maybe a decision was indeed made but just wasn’t shown on your ECAS yet .... got to stay optimistic lol

Hi everyone,

Do the oath letter and ceremony dates get updated on ECAS? or completed is the last update right after Decision Made?

Thanks,

Decision Made, then Completed if I recall correctly.

So I emailed my MP again, telling them it's been more than 16 months now with no test invite, and this is the response I get:

"I do not have an official answer as to why the process is taking longer than projected. Based on my experience, the following reasons have been cited to explain the length of the work (I was not given a particular reason for your file): 1) coordinating between varying agencies takes time; 2) sheer volume of applications; 3) the country of origin is inefficient in providing requested data to the IRCC."

Is this really supposed to help me with anything? I am fed up hearing excuses that make no sense.

I have been waiting for 18 months now...I have totally given up as I have figured nothing can be done until you hit 2 years or so to take the Mandamus route...Literally everyone that I knew has got their citizenship...

No. It is not intended to help. The Help Centre agents are clearly overwhelmed (and probably "fed up" as well) wasting valuable time answering the same useless questions again and again.

Name of the game is WAITING. No matter how many times the children in the backseat whine "are we there yet?" the question does NOT accelerate the process, does not mitigate the WAIT. And the answer does not really matter or change: the real answer being, simply, NO, NOT there yet.

My impression is that you personally have been well aware of this for some time now. Why continue to call the Help Centre and make others, those with real questions, wait longer on hold . . . or not be able to get through during a limited period of time they have to make the call during available hours?

If this was the case for everyone, then we would understand. But since it's not, you can't help but become frustrated and start holding to any thread of hope that can make any change, such as continuously reminding the MP about that. There are also cases where people's security check was already done but was simply waiting for an agent to update it into the record, I am talking more than a year of wait.

Simply asking people with cases like us to simply wait is not going to sell it. Otherwise we could be hanging in there for God knows how long.

Plus the agents/MPs are there to help us, not give us template answers, that's what they are paid for. Otherwise they may as well use the tax money elsewhere where it's more useful, like fixing potholes in Montreal.

Frustration understood.

Does not change what the situation is. You know you are not going to get any real information from the Help Centre unless you just happen to call in a very narrow window of time between a task done and notice to you the applicant.

In the meantime, IRCC processes more than a HALF MILLION applications each year, a large percentage of which are citizenship applications. Thousands of clients have real questions for which the Help Centre agents can provide meaningful information. It would be nice if those who are pursuing Canadian citizenship could indeed act like citizens, and be considerate of those thousands of others who have real questions, many of whom are working full time and may have very limited slots of time to try to get through to a Help Centre agent.

Please.
