How long it will take to receive OCI booklet?

Now they want my passport photocopy for my wife's OCI (she isn't applying on basis of spouses. She was an Indian citizen herself).

There is no check list or no mention of this anywhere on the website. And she also wants an affidavit because she changed name after marriage (which happened in India before we even started Canadian immigration). Again, no mention of this on the checklist.

Is the BLA agent talking out of her ass?

Just an update for everyone applying for OCI.

The BLS agents seems to have a commission or something from the shipping labels they generate for the pick up and drop off services. Every agent i talked to was trying to rush me to pay them and buy the postal services.

I actually chose the pickup and drop off in my first attempt, but they sent back my application for minor things, and i ended up wasting precious time (close to a month) and a few dollars. And then decided to go in person to the BLS Brampton.

Was able to find some appointment within a week (try opening the appointment page once or twice a day, morning and afternoon), and the person i dealt with was nice and intelligent and she guided me through the entire process too.

I am glad i chose to be there in person, other wise i might have ended up wasting another month and 100 more dollars.
Did they allow you to pick-up your OCI from BLS brampton counter or they will send via purolator ?

Hello friends, just noticed that the online checklist for OCI (for Toronto) has changed and we are required to only send the copy of Indian passport and Canadian passport and not the original. However, for Citizenship certificate, there is confusion as title says copy but description says original and copy. Has anyone recently applied by post and what did u send - copy or originals?

Secondly, does BLS give any same day appointments or walk ins etc as i see that there are no appointments till May end?
Hi Did anyone get back to you on this. I rather not send the original citizenship certificate. Replacing it in case it gets lost is very time consuming.

Has anyone made a postal application for OCI recently? Do we have to provide originals of any documents to them (he checlklist suggess citizenship certificate)? This is for Toronto jurisdiction. I cannot find a single OCI appointment for the next few months.

I would recommend to avoid postal application. They used to return the application for silly mistake. They open same day appointment at 8:30am. Try to book any type of appointment like passport, Visa or OCI. That’s how I did my son application in December.

Thanks a lot! I can see VISA slots for sure no OCI I will book a VISA slot then. Have a good day!

How long does it take to receive OCI booklet after the status is marked processed?

Few questions on appointment booking for surrender (ideally BLS Toronto, second preference BLS Brampton).
1. When booking a surrender appointment, should I book one appointment for the entire family, or 4 separate appointments for each family member?
2. Can I submit all 4 surrender applications (self, spouse, 2 minor children), or does my spouse need to submit her application?
3. The earliest appointment availability I'm currently seeing at BLS Toronto is 8th April 2022. Can I book this now, and change later if an earlier date becomes available?
4. Is walk-in a realistic option at either Toronto or Brampton, if I don't want to wait that long?

If the next appointment is in April, then I would just do a postal application.

Thanks for the reply. That was my plan too, but it seems BLS comes back sometimes and asks for additional documents, hoping to avoid that headache. With in-person application, at least there's some assurance that my submission is complete. Also it will likely by another 5-6 weeks before I get my Canadian passport, so anyway can't do surrender before that.

Well but April is like 2 months away. You could send documents again and it wouldn’t take that long

Surrender certificate status - printed on passportseva website how long would it take to move from this state to Ready for collection and then Ready for Dispatch, so i can time it and book OCI appointments, shoot this doesn't end, yikes!!

1. From what I've seen, both on this forum and on the BLS website, it would have to be 4 separate appointments. Each appointment per person.
2. If you're referring to your spouse physically being there to submit it, then yes I believe your spouse would need to submit her own application.
3. If you are okay with waiting that long then sure. Or else postal is an option.
4. From reading some of the posts here, it definitely seems like it will be a long a wait. So all depends if you're willing to take that risk.

For your 1st and 2nd question, I would suggest to call BLS and double check with them too, just to be sure.
