Hi guys,

I have a few questions regarding the OCI postal application. I plan to take the Purolator pick up service or will go to the purolator office to send my application to BLS Brampton. I would really appreciate if someone can guide me by answering the following-

1) There is a fee of $345 payable to Consulate General and $7.4 processing plus courier charge payable to BLS International

I have opted for drop off service and paid $30 something online. As I have already paid for drop off do I still need to get a demand draft for $7.4 for processing charge?

2) Can I just provide self attested photo copies and no original supporting documents- I see a few people mentioning that they did the same. Have people got OCI cards by doing this?

3) I missed uploading marriage certificate online thinking it was optional. My root to OCI is self and I am not applying on the basis of spouse's Indian citizenship. Do I still need to recreate the online application and upload this doc or is it just ok if I send photocopy of marriage certificate

4) I didn't receive any proof for drop off service. Do they still get to know that I have paid?

YES Correct

I have opted for drop off service and paid $30 something online. As I have already paid for drop off do I still need to get a demand draft for $7.4 for processing charge?

No you need to create a second seperate demand draft for $7.4 for BLS

2) Can I just provide self attested photo copies and no original supporting documents- I see a few people mentioning that they did the same. Have people got OCI cards by doing this?

You need to provide self attested copies as well as original Canadian Passport + Indian Cancelled Passport ( as per there checklist, failing to do so is adding on a risk of your application getting returned)- They will send this back to you the originals within 15days while the rest of application remains in process

3) I missed uploading marriage certificate online thinking it was optional. My root to OCI is self and I am not applying on the basis of spouse's Indian citizenship. Do I still need to recreate the online application and upload this doc or is it just ok if I send photocopy of marriage certificate

That's fine, no need to upload, but attach a photocopy in paper application

4) I didn't receive any proof for drop off service. Do they still get to know that I have paid?

No, that's for the Purolator charges, not them ( there fee is $7.4 on demand draft)

Guys for a kid born in Canada to two Indian Citizens (Canadian Permanent Residents), applying for OCI. Is it required to upload parent's COPR?

1. The drafts have to be for $345 and $7.4 irrespective of how you submit your application.

2. I sent only self attested copies of all documents and no originals. I received my OCI without any issues.

3. No need for marriage certificate.

4. No idea. I went to purolator and paid for return shipping label and sent it with my application. Worked.

best of luck!
nerd.

Received my OIC today via Purolator.
Applied 29th June via postal to Brampton.
Acknowledgement on BLS 7th July.
Acknowledgement on OCI website 15th July.
Received OCI by post 16 August.

Hope this helps someone.
cheers!

Great to know that it worked with copies too. Thanks! Regarding point 4 though I paid for drop off service online, I still didn't get the return label. I remember while using purolator pick up n drop off service for surrender certificate too I had got label for pick up and had not received drop off label but I still got the surrender certificate mailed to my address. I am assuming the BLS guys get the return label at their end. Hopefully it is the same this time too.

Hi all,

I am applying for Surrender Certificate. The website says 119$ for Surrender fee + 3$ for Consular fee + 7.4$ for BLS service fee = 129.40$ total.

I am planning to walk in to submit my application. Should I take DD for the entire amount or just 119+3 $ for the Demand draft.

Thanks for your time guys.

Regards,
Sufgan

You do not need a DD for surrender certificate. You can pay at the BLS using your debit card.

Just take exact cash or a debit card with money on it

2) self attested copies only needed and I just got my OCI.
3) You have option to upload documents without doing a new application

thats not true , Canadian Passport require verification, in your case you got lucky, but for postal applications its clearly stated original passport should be send
No my friends also got it without originals. I did ask BLS customer care why checklist is asking for originals and they said it is not updated, you only need self attested copies for postal application. I did call multiple customer care agents to clarify then only I did apply.

Alright, but I won't suggest anyone this practice
