hi, it makes sense to use Canadian PP for the reason you mentioned. I am confused because of the below document from CGI Toronto's website (please refer page 3):
https://www.cgitoronto.gov.in/docs/1617812881Step-wise-process-for-OCI-application-new.pdf

@vipulgoyal88 well that's exactly what I said above your Indian passport stands cancelled and invalid. So the details cannot be used anywhere unless they ask for it explicitly like a copy or something. Indian passport or a copy now stands as a reference point to verify your personal details like family info (parents and spouse) as it is printed in the bio page and proves that you are a person of Indian origin by Birth as it has place of birth in it that's all. In the OCI application they only ask for your passport details once that too with expiry date. So it makes sense to enter the details of your Canadian PP. Your Canadian PP#, date of issue and place of issue are all printed in the OCI card. There is no mention or reference to Indian passport number on the OCI card. I have done the same and I received my card 3 days ago. Now you tell me what makes sense here.

Good Luck

When we travel to India with OCI & Canadian passport for the first time, do we need to carry Cancelled Indian Passport and/or Surrender Certificate too? Is there any other doc that we need to carry apart from OCI & Canadian Passport? I assume we don't need to carry Canadian Citizen Certificate anywhere. Right?

Cancelled passport is as good a 500 Rupee note after demonetization - of no use.
Citizenship certificate is NOT a travel document.

If you want to go to India for, e.g., Journalism, Research, or Tabligh activities - then yes, you must have paperwork that approves those activities in India. So, you need relevant paperwork, if required by immigration.

If you want if are welcome to carry cancelled passport and citizenship certificate, but I will never do that and will not suggest someone to do that either.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. So I don't have to carry Cancelled Indian passport & Canadian Citizenship Certificate..thanks for confirming that.....But, you didn't talk about Surrender Certificate. What about that? I assume I don't have to carry that either. right?

By the way, I don't think Cancelled Indian passport is like old 500 rupee note. Because you can just throw/tear old 500 rupee note, but I don't think you can do that with cancelled Indian passport. I am told that if you ever have to deal with CGI/BLS again in future (for eg., OCI application for any of your children who are not born yet OR, re-endorsement of your renewed Canadian passport number on OCI which you'll do every 10years(5years in case of minors) OR Re-issue of OCI in case of stolen/lost/damaged OCI), my friend you'll need to re-submit your 'useless' Cancelled Indian Passport again. So please don't throw/tear it like Old 500 rupee note, if you haven't done that already. :)

And, no I don't plan to indulge in Journalism, Research & Tablighi Jamaat activities, but thanks for the info.

When we travel, the only proof anyone needs is
1. Valid Passport from your Home Country
2. Visa to allow you into the Host country. (OCI is just a visa to enter India).

So SC/Old Indian Passport/Citizenship Cert or any other documents are irrelevant and are only useful for other things in future when you deal with BLS/Canadian Govt for something else. Keep them in your file organizer where you keep your other important documents.
You just need to carry an active valid passport and a visa, which in this case is a Canadian Passport and and OCI.

If you have a valid visa in the cancelled passport for any country that doesn't have visa free travel for Canadian Citizens AND if the host country accepts VALID visas from a Cancelled Passport (USA does), you could in that case carry your old passport alongside your Canadian Passport. But that's a rare occurrence since most countries allow visa free entry to Canadians.

Hi
You just need few of it not all. If you click the specific upload link you will get details about whether you need it or not according to your application.
Since your Fresh OCI Applicant you need self attested following documents to upload
1,2,3
4. Some on here they upload the COPR not me
5. Not needed
6. Not Possible and no
7 & 8 No
If I missed some part, anyone give more info
Also, give a call to BLS

For Brampton BLS, Can we surrender Indian Citizenship/Passport without acquiring Canadian Passport?
