It's for minor child only. We all have OCI and we plan to extend child e-via to OCI (already applied in Canada, will ship to India once received here). We have plan to stay more than 6 months.
Indian immigration may or may not ask this but at the Check In counters here at the airports in Canada they will ask you for the return ticket for the minor since he/she has a visa and not an OCI.
Why would they do that, because airlines are liable to ferry the passenger back to their origin in case destination immigration denies entry.
This may happen on a case to case basis, so why take a chance for a few hundred dollars, get a ticket which has pretty late return date(keep the return ticket with Latitude fare class or similar (which is fully refundable)

A question to you… Will you visit e.g. Switzerland/US etc. without a return/onward journey ticket ?

Hello all,

Please help here

We applied OCI for our newborn and it is still in progress. (In person on 11th Jan at BLS Brampton)

We have an emergency and traveling this weekend with an e-visa for my kid

We will not be at home by the time of card is delivered. what are the options for me?

Should we go to BLS Brampton to change the shipping address? Can we do that? if yes, can we ask them to ship it to my friend's address? do I need to provide any proof of address of my friend?

or ask them to hold it until we come back? how long they can hold?

Which way is the easiest method to contact BLS? Walk at 3pm or mail or phone?

Please help, thanks alot
My BLS tracking status shows the shipping data, and Purolator shows the destination city to be that of my friend's address. So I think the phone request to change shipping address worked.

Vancouver Jurisdiction: Minor application
Postal date: Dec 19
BLS Acknowledged: Dec 26 (Under process)
DOA on OCI: Jan 6
Since then it's under process and no update yet. It looks like Vancouver jurisdiction is pretty slow for OCI processing.
Travelling in June so hopefully till that time we can get our child's OCI Lol.

Yeah - Vancouver is slow, I got mine processed (Feb 13) in a little over 2 months after DOA on OCI (Dec 6), so June is definite - you will get the OCI

Hi guys,

Is it better to apply for OCI in India than in Canada? Which Indian Visa to go for? And what's the timeline to obtain OCI in India?

Thanks.

OCI you can apply only after living in India for 6 months. If you want to apply OCI in India, you will need entry visa.
There is currently no experience shared about OCI process from India in this forum, so timeline is not known.

My daughter's (minor) application got returned because she did Thumb impression instead of Signatures on Main application (signature upload) and Declaration (3rd page). I am surprised because OCI website https://ociservices.gov.in/ clearly states below:

  • A person who has not attained the age of 18 years is considered as minor. In case of minor who cannot sign, his/her left thumb impression may be placed in the signature box. Parents should not sign on the behalf of the children.
Obviously my daughter being minor never signed before and her signatures didn't look consistent that's why we did thumb impression. Morever as per above guidelines thumb impression should be acceptable in case of minor.

Now, we need to redo the application, pay the courier (send and return).

Not sure if anyone faced the same. If not, may be this is a new rule. Future applicants (minors) please take note. May be call BLS to confirm.

Probably they go with Indian passport, if your daughters Indian passport had signature then they would prefer signature on application also as told by bls agent once.
